Beware of Ben Harper - it is under the Relentless7 guise and he does not play any of his older material. Unfortunately his new album kinda sucked.

Tix are kinda steep too - $125 a go. Ouch!

I didn't mind a coupla songs on the new CD, overall it was on par with his past few releases.

But cheers for the heads up. What is the deal with this relentless7 stuff? Is it his band or not?

I don't mind paying $125 for a good show, but I would be going more for Harper than Pearl Jam.

    Agreed Alex.

Plus, I still think he is a wanker after "that interview" with Robbie Buck.

    Album for the day:

    Foreign Born: Person to Person

This is pretty good stuff. Indie/rock but plenty to keep you interested.

I think both were kinda to blame in that interview. I've met Ben before - nice guy but I can see that if he was pushed enough he'd get pissed off.

R7 is essentially his new band. He wanted to just go with R7 but the label insisted on his name being out there. The album is pretty bland...I wish he'd go back to doing his old stuff. I can't see how his new music is selling much more than his old stuff any way.

I've put Bloc Party, Intimacy back on play. Didn't really grab me the first time but this time I am finding so much more in it. Great album now IMO. It is strange because A Weekend In the City took awhile as well.

He has been pretty bland since The Will To Live.

All his albums since then have had 2-3 great tracks and heap of average tracks. He is still better than most "mainstream" artists, and is a good live performer. Having said that, I keep seeing him live hoping he can recapture some of the brilliance of when I saw him in the late 90's. Hasn't happened.

Welcome..., The Will To Live and Fight For Your Mind are all fantastic albums. Burn To Shine has it's moments (the lyrics of Beloved One is being used as a reading at my wedding in March), but after that he seems to have lost his edge. From what I've heard and read I think he got some pressure from his label to become a bit more marketable and make more stuff like 'Steal My Kisses' that will sell units. Unfortunately rather than jumping ship from the label he went down that path. I just couldn't imagine that I would have seen a guy who made some seriously powerful music trot out such crap later in his career. A serious shame.

In saying that, if he did a 'best of' tour of his old stuff I'd be there in a second. Live he can be sensational.

    Great post.

Sad to hear, but it sheds some light on the more commercial vibe.

Agree on your last point too, maybe that is what I will wait for.

A fair bit of Dave Matthews Band on the iPod at the moment...the new album, a few of the Live Trax series of releases and other live stuff. Never seems to get old for me Other than that, got stuff like Dream Theater, John Butler Trio and other good rock music with talented musicians.

Fleet Foxes: Fleet Foxes EP, Sun Giant EP and bonus tracks from international releases of the Fleet Foxes album.

These guys are awesome. They have not released a bad song.

Highlight would be Mykonos from the Sun Giant EP.

Have been listening to Matthew Sweet - 100% fun in my car the last few days. Really enjoying it. Any Matthew Sweet fans here who would recommend a third album to get if I enjoy listening to Girlfriend and 100% Fun?

Girlfriend - great album. 'Time Capsule' is a good way to check out his stuff. I don't mind Altered Beast and In Reverse but Girlfriend is by far his strongest album.
