Obviously this isn't headed to court anytime soon, but just for the record, this thread does satisfy all the tests to be defamatory.
The major hurdle to defamation action is the extreme cost of mounting a case, even if you've clearly been wronged, and I think that hurdle is a bit high for people who make their living shooting a couple under in country pro-ams

Laycock "Zigwah said i was a c*ck"
Judge "what on earth is a zigwah"
pretty sure there is some legal precedents out there that anonymous forums/newsgroups cannot be counted as defamation
Ozgolf wouldnt have lasted a week of defamation was a reality.

i can picture the court scene now, complete with zigwah's brother in the back, sipping bundys while glaring at laycock the whole time.

and the paper bag holding all his cans breaks an they all land on the floor - whilst the judge is deliberating. Whilst trying to pick them up, he stands on one and falls over. drops more after he picks them up.

Laywers are good at writing letters to frighten people when they have no leg to stand on. Its cheap and worth a crack.

I just lost it out loud here in the office and everyone is staring at me!
To answer MTB's query, if the defamed party is merely an online persona whose true identity is not known, the action falls over, but Scott Laycock is not an anonymous online persona.
Finding Zig would be the major issue, were it to actually happen, which it obviously won't.

A website over here paid out a shitload to Adam and Mel Gilchrist after the "Slats is the dad" saga. It can and does happen.

My issue is your statement that my brother sounds like a cockhead, sounds being a present tense, if you had something along the lines of he's as though a he was being a bit of a cockhead. Then i would have had no issue does that makes sense to you?
This one.

...
The funniest thing about all this, is Ziggy and Scottt have the same opinion.
Now kiss and make up.

Yeah, what he did on that day.
Of course for the rest of his life he might be a thorough gentleman who helps old ladies across the road and volunteers at the hospital, or he might be exactly the same as he was on that pro-am day.
The only one who knows the answer to that is you.
