playing pro am's
Just reading about someone who had a pro walk off after 8 holes or something or other and thougt i'd share one of my esxperiences with you.
Now this pro's name i can't remember, but he was lookimg like he was gonna be alright then faded his firtst name is scott anyway.
So my brother and i played in a pro am at our local course and he played int the morning round and i played in the arvo round, so i caddied for my brother in the morning and he played with some hack by the name of dummet, hope no none here is related or really likes him any way he chopped his way around and we finished the morning round brother went to cluibhouse for a few bourbons and i worked in the pro shop for a bit, anyway i go and find him in the clubhouse and he'd had a couple of bourbons, so i thought it best we get a cart as he was going to caddy with me.
He wanted to go and get some cans from the bottleo but was told that if he wanted to drink on the course he would have to buy from there, so he says to the barman i'll have a slab of jack cans mate, barman gives him a funny lookand gets the slap while danny goes and gets the esky from the car and stocks it witrh ice and away we go with the car danny driving to meet the pro, still cant remember his name, any all intros get done and we tee of the tenth a par 3 and at the end of the hole i'd already formed the opinion that this guy was a tool, he was either up himself or took a dislike to my brother, whiuch isn't hard, he's a top bloke but a bit of a larrakin and a piss head.
So after playing 16 holes and not getting much convo out of the pro and having good chats to the other 2 guys in the group, and Danny doing a pretty good job of a can a hole we walk of the 7th green and you have to have a bit of a walk to the next tee just over a dirt bridge, as i was talking one of the other guys who was walking i said to Danny just go to the next tee mate i'll walk up the, he says no worries man and roars of in the cart, the pro meanwhile had started to not play so well and his demeanour was getting worse, its not like he was having a shocker he had 71 1 under for the day, anyway, danny goes across the bridge in this golf cart he was well and truly cut at this point and i looked uo to see him chucking a sharp quick u-turn just up on the side of the tee box, well the cart went up on 2 wheels and the esky went flying bourbon cans and ice everywhere, i look across at the pro and he's just shaking his head and im thinking danny ya dickhead anyway he claeaned it all up and apoligised for spilling shit and driving erraticly to the tee, everybody was sort of like your a fool, but a funny farcker, pro never said a word , i admit it was not the sort of thing you expect to see on course but no one was overly upset, needles to say i drove the rest of the 2 holes.
Get to the green all the hackers shake hands, turn around to shake scott whatever his name was hand but he was allready putting his putter in his bag and buggering off.
So everyone goes into the club house for the obligitory and the pro still didn't turn which after everything even the cart "incident" him being a rude prick all day and he doesnt even come in and have a drink.
Anyway that was one pro am i played in did ok 81 72 didnt win anything got a pro ball i think but bugger all else, but yeah some of you will be appalled by this story but i thought i would tell it any way, might make up for all my single posts in the pump up song thread.

I think I saw that episode on 'Kath and Kim'.
Did you read the conditions of cart hire, including the excess for the various types of damage?
You don't get me. I'm part of the Union.

Enjoyed the story ziggy...where do you play at?

Ithink it was Zigwah who had the 24 cans - today.
What the pro did was an 'offense' under the PGA rules. They must socialise with the playing partners for about 20 mins after the round.

Criticism doesn't bother me, as it means I am doing something and people are watching.

This was about 16 years ago Razaar at mooroopna golf club, havent played there for a while. It had, has the potential to be a really good course but it just stays the same, a lot of bare lies, shit bunkers, but a reasonable bunch of blokes to play with.

Having been a former pro it is an offence to not socialise after the round. Having said that its a very ordinary effort to have your brother follow you around with a slab of bourbon. A lot of people forget the pros are trying to earn $$ to provide for families etc and then you get people carrying on your brother... How the **** can you expect to play decent with that shit happening around you..
The pro would not have been breached if the all of the truth came out.

If he didn't have a decent score going, he probably wouldn't have lasted 18 holes. He did well to see it out.

I played with Scott Laycock quite a few times in Pro Ams back in the early to mid 90's and thought he was a top bloke. He was very down to earth and very friendly

I played in the Yowani pro-am yesterday. Haven't played one of these for ages, but I got a mate in (who is a trainee) so I pretty much was obliged to play.
The group in front of me was a pro only group. I found 2 holes damaged from when they put the flag back in. The dickhead pro in front of them (Michael Etherington) had his group 2 holes behind after an hour (something that he is apparently well known for).
A lot of these numbskulls obviously forget where their income is coming from. I wouldn't lose any sleep if I never played another pro-am ever again.
