Ho!
Ho!
I am working on getting a decent front light also, just tough to find the moolah. I currently ride Tuesday and Thursday mornings about 40kms with a Saturday race of 30km with 10km each way warm up/down. Most of the guys I ride with have pretty good lamps but I am getting by with a $10 5 LED job at present. I try to make sure I am not out front for too long.
Ordered my ayup lights yesterday. Oh to be seen, and have a battery smaller than a 700ml water bottle!

$297 for the cheapest kit.
Start from close to $300 I think.
No need to be jealous of the 'dale. Technically it's nothing special and pretty old now. But it was Jasters last and fav bike and it's on loan to me.
Basically what Vegas and Just said. But certainly comparable with other decent light kits (niterider and the such) but the full kit is pretty cool. I'd consider adding another light and battery down the track for the helmet. But I do some highway riding early morning, and lots around town, and bloody early and dark and foggy. The guys I ride with taught me very early that you can't have enough light. My previous kmart cheapy was crap compared to what I was leant by a mate and that's only got 30% power left. These should leave them for dead. Gonna add a couple of these little ones on the back seat stays as well soon as it's pretty foggy up here.

They're about $20 bucks in town.
I pretty much have my rear lights on flashing at all times I ride (short of races) and even have the front lights flashing during the day. You do stand out more.
Not sure where to put this...but I figure most of the time will be on the bike. i have just signed up for my first half-ironman, it is nearly 6 months away and I am already nervous!
Need to get a lot of training in before then but I am hoping being entered will help keep the motivation up!
Great work Toolish. Just don't go too hard too early is my advice. Scale up your training regime to suit your entry level of fitness.
I purchased a Magicshine headlight from T7 last week and it showed up yesterday in time for this morning's 40km ride. The other lads called me Rudolf as my light shat on theirs for brightness (or should that be lumens)! It makes a big difference with confidence, especially in pitch black conditions with a little water on the road.
Good luck, Toolish, you crazy bastard.
Wouldn't a half-ironman be a wedgeman ?
You don't get me. I'm part of the Union.
Don't panic too much. You've been doing plenty and have plenty of time beforehand. And honestly half way through the race is at the 10k point of the run. Practice eating on the bike 'cause depending on what food you plan on using it's the easiest time to eat. Don't treat it like a race this time, treat it like an accomplishment and you'll do better than you expect without the pressure of a time on your mind. In saying that I had 3 time goals and beat them all. And you've reminded me that I've only got a month to enter GCHIM before entry price goes up!
And crazy - this coming from a guy who does 50k trail races!!!!!
Woops Toolish, I haven't read your posts obviously and you have done a bit already. Where is the HIM held?
The Goondiwindi Tri Club hold a Tin Man event each year, was on at a bad time for me so I didn't give it a crack (wife gave birth). I can't remember the distances but the blokes I knew who competed from Moree said it wasn't too tough.
As long as that's all cleared up then!
Knockdown ironman, I like that!!
It is based in Shepparton so swim in the Murray, flat ride flat run from what I know. I am planning on basing my training off a 20 wk training plan on beginnertriathlete.com but I will change it up a bit as I am working on doing Adelaide full or half marathon so my run base will be reasonably strong going in and I need to focus more on swimming I think so will tweak it a bit but that will be the base of my training.
I have never really done a lot of eating on the bike so will have to get some practice in to see what goes down and stays down well. Need to do this soon for running anyway.
I am a bit worried about what the day might hold but there is plenty of time to prepare and I am looking forward to the challenge. Just need to work on getting a support crew there as my wife currently thinks she won’t be able to make it.
All the Best with it Toolish. Will have to see if I can do one of these one day.

Spring Cycle registration opened today. Ride date is Sunday October 17th.
I missed out last year (friends had a christening), so I'm keen as mustard this year.
Lucy Harris smart smart smart, Martin Harris dumb.
I have already been in contact with the organisers have been some changes for this year too.

Yeah... checking the website they didn't seem to have the same number of routes this year? I'll still do the North Sydney ride regardless - I particularly think the ride over the bridge is the highlight (on the Cahill Expressway, not just the bike lane on the western side with the massive flight of stairs to access).

Finish is at Parramatta Park, more start points to come too.
