    Default Hello from Melbourne

Good morning all. Joe here from Melbourne. I'm a Yank from Chicago who has been living in Melbourne for the past 4 years. Love being able to play golf in the winter unlike Chicago. The wife and i got permanent residency last year so it looks like we are staying a bit. I play every Saturday and usually once or twice mid week but with the arrival of my first son on March 30th i can see my golf slowing down a bit. I have the obsession that everyone on this site seems to have so i should fit right in. Seems like this is the Aussie version of GolfWRX with less dickheads .

Hey mate i cant wait to get my posts up to the 40 so i can start listing on the pro shop. I love the mindset you guys have on here of pass a good deal on to the fellow forum members not trying to screw or make a profit off everyone. I'm currently a member at Ivanhoe Public course as i live in Heidelberg. The wife has had us move every year that we have been here so i've also been a member at Yarra Valley Country Club and Ringwood public golf course. I also play at Yarra Bend a bit with some mates who run a Comp there.

I work for Florsheim Shoe company. I worked for their parents company in the states and i was given the opportunity to move over here to help run the distribution center.

It is a good setup, just have to remember what you paid so you don't inadvertently rip the next bloke so you've always been in melbourne by the sounds of it, nice tracks you have played. Good gig to Australia for your company, it's not a bad place to call home.

    Hello from my toilet.

Big call on there being less dickheads. I pride myself as a B grade dickhead, but can't reach the heights of some of the A graders here.

Welcome jwags. Congrats on the birth of your son. Get him used to being pushed around a golf course in the pram and hopefully your golf won't be curtailed too much.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

Hey Joe, Congrats on the new member of the family.

I went to Chicago during December a couple of years ago. I didn't know what cold was until that trip, I bet you get sick of people here complaining about how cold it is when it gets under 20 degrees.

Chicago in the winter is a beast. You forget what cold really is until you have to scrape ice off your windshield in 20 below zero. I very much enjoy the Melbourne winters. Just yesterday we returned from Chicago to Melbourne. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt when i stepped out of the airport to a 8 degree day. The looks i got from people bundled up in full winter coats and hats. If they only knew cold.

Welcome Joe. Hope you're cleaning up against Melbourne folks who can't play golf when the temperature heads south of 15.
Still not playing enough GolfLink | Slightly less terrible stats brought to you by Golfshot - F: 57%, GIR: 23%, UD: 14%, P: 34. Wow, improvement! | Nickent brand ho or tightarse? You be the judge!

The opposite is also true. It's fun to watch southerners come to FNQ in September and complain about how humid it is.
