    One of the all time most popular cover songs, blues at its best;

    This is the original recording, though the song itself apparently predates this considerably;

    And a few well known covers;

    I'm not going to post any youtube links, but U2's version of All Along The Watchtower came up on my ipod this morning.

    Which got me thinking. What is the song that generates the most really good covers?

    Hendrix's version often appears in lists of best covers, Dave Matthews does an excellent version, as does U2, and all are completely different.

    I am a collector of good versions of What Becomes of the Broken Hearted, but they are all quite similar. The same applies to Why Can't We Live Together.

    Heard It Through The Grapevine, maybe? Johnny B Goode?

    It's a pretty good series to see others done in that studio.

    It is a shame the title gives the game away. You would be none the wiser for most of the song;

    Check out Weezers album, Teal! And for some reason it's not included on the album but they released a single of Rosanna, by Toto. Great album. And they're going on tour with the Foo Fighters. Would be an awesome show!

    No specifically a Metalhead. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, the era of Deep Purple, Zeppelin, Sabbath, AC/DC etc. Smoke on the Water was the No 1 requested song at local dances. Bands couldn't get a gig unless they could play it. So metal was everywhere.

    That has played constantly in my head my whole life, preceding the original release.

    Might not be to everyone's taste but I'm fascinated by this Kate Bush cover. Not only because despite being shot in some guy's basement in Radelaide, it's extremely well done and because the lead singer's legally blind.

    Plenty of this 'group's' work on their website.

    As a bit of back story, they were part of the Hindley Street Country Club before a split with the two founding members and there's plenty more amazing covers on that band's YT page as well.
