    Default Hit and giggle rubbish.

Did anyone happen to see any of the hit and giggle rubbish they dished up at Coolangatta/Tweed
    Heads over the week-end.
Whilst I am all for promoting golf, surely a novelty event such as this should not
    be on television.
I understand the winner received $30K...
For winning a novelty event including long drive, long putt, best bunker shot,
best flop shot etc...and wait for it..a 5 hole matchplay event, together with another
5 hole match play event and a 3 hole final...
Is this the best we can do in Australia....
    Seriously....

I had it on a fair bit as a background thing, but couldn't have sat there and watched it as my sole focus.

Exactly. God only knows why they didn’t have a full field, 140 player, 72 hole stroke play event for $6 million.

I dont expect a tournament in Australia to be anything like an overseas event in regard
    to prizemoney, field size etc...
Im simply suggesting that this type of novelty event should not be on television.
Oh by the way, the quality of play was pathetic...
9 of the players were professional golfers, yet they played shots like they were 27 markers....
AND to have a tie breaker in the form of a putt off...well..how amateurish is that...
The rumour is that all the players not in the final received a manicure down at Wesfields
    as their prize....
Each winner of a novelty event received a Big Mac and fries...
    Just joking....

Standard 72 hole golf tournaments in Australia can not get sponsors, or crowds. It is evident everywhere. Death of the Aussie masters, pretty much no crowd at any event here other than mens Autralian Open and mens PGA and even they arent great.

Womens golf gets even less sponsorship and coverage, womens open used to be on ABC, not sure if it still is, and there are about 12 people watching.

A full event done in about 4 hours per day over a weekend is a good alternative to the standard 72 hole event. I don't think the format was quite right and could do with some tweaking, in regards to the quality of play there are limits with covid and because it is such a short compressed event you see every shot, not just the good ones.

Go and watch a state open and watch the guys and girls who are missing cuts, this is the standard of play.

Becky Kay, Steph Kyriacou and Karis Davison are world class, Steph Bunque and Robyn Choi are odds on to be bloody good. The depth wasn't there, but at least they are trying sometihng! Any coverage of Australian golf is good.

Its on TV because real golf is about as exciting as Curling practice. You ( and me) are dinosaurs, Shells wonderful world of golf would fall flat on its face in todays world.

. Its this sort of novelty crap that going to get new young people interested in the game. The same goes for Holey Moley, Top Golf, golfer69 Mini Putt etc. We ozgolfers aint the target audience.

I wondered about this hearing people talk about Homa winning at Riviera.

Is he a golfer because as a kid he loved watching Tiger play or did he love watching Tiger play because he was already a golfer?

Blakey, I believe Shell’s wonderful world of golf would do great (in TV land) these days. The key is good (and hopefully interesting) players on great golf courses. 9/10’s of the PGA tour courses are crap...or the PGA Tour neuter the course/setup. Part of the problem is trying to woo people who are non golfers with hard to understand tedious slow 4 round stroke play tournaments! Either forget about non golfers and appeal to a core audience....or make the product more interesting and watchable in 1 or 2 hours!

PGA Tour is run by and full of pampered F*cks!
