Agreed. I might not be a big fan but I'm pretty sure he knows what bounce he prefers.

Probably the biggest example of talking out of one's ass that I have seen here.

Dis. Strange that we didn't hear too much about how he was playing with the wrong clubs when he was up several shots at the turn.

Yes after chunking my way through 2015, the extremely large divot taken before the ball sort of gives it away!

He just has to survive the Inquisition. Golf Channel were going into meltdown after. I had to chuckle listening to Duval and Chamblee rabbiting on with their theories.

    Yup.

Norman's meltdown seems to have been pushed into the annals by what is now considered to be "the worst ever meltdown". I am presuming they are letting Van de Velde off the hook by adding, "at the Masters"?

His ball striking last year looked better on !y screen. This year he left quite a few pitches way short, missing his mark by more than 10 metres. These pitches were all up hill. Up hill lies with low bounce on the wedge can easily stop the clubhead (through digging) when there is ball/ground contact with the leading edge. That's basic wedge fundamentals, pretty common stuff. A lob wedge with 7 or 8 bounce gives a little more safety against digging. With 4* there is little margin for error on uphill pitches and chips.

If that made you chuckle, the stuff on here from the internet's premier swing analyst must have made a little bit of wee come out.

I think everyone is missing the obvious. He duffed those shots because he didn't back off them multiple times. He plain old "rushed" them!

I think the term melt is a massive dramatisation of what happened.

I don't think chunking 2 shots on one hole constitutes a meltdown. Stuff up, f**k up, poor course management, brain fart yes. Choke maybe? Meltdown no.
The way I see it is a melt down wouldn't see birdies made on 13 & 15. Backing it up on consecutive holes with more chopped shots for a group or series of dropped shots Involving more doubles or triples would.

Definitely choked, meltdown was more like Rory collapsing on the back 9 when he had the lead

Low bounce wedges come into their own at Augusta due to all the tight lies. A lot of players actually go to lower bounce lob wedges with more narrow soles due to this. At one stage Vokey was calling them Augusta orders. They are pro's, not choppers.
