Best Champs Venue
OK. Here's a question for those who have attended both the last 2 years Champs. Which of the 2 venue's did you prefer... KV or PM?
As far as I'm concerned, Palm Meadows was a better course, but KV was a better location when you consider everything else. IMO, golf is secondary on the Champs weekend, so my vote goes to KV.
Edit: note that this is a public poll.

I preferred getting to and from PM. The food was better at PM, and provided we could get a function room and we get a good deal I would be back in a flash. The organisation from the course was also better.
The food at the bowls club at KV on the Saturday was shithouse but on the whole the experience was good and the price very attractive.

Positives and Negatives both ways. Unfortunately I didn't experience the socialising once we were back to our rooms at KV. For this reason I found PM better with the TV, pool table, and poker all in the one spot.
Golf? Who cares?

PM by a mickey hair.
i nearly went for KV because of the easier access to BYO later on in the night.
I'm back.

The Rex room was the tie breaker for me.
Having access to pool, poker, telly, drinking and socialising without having to go to different people's rooms was the winner for me.

KV without a doubt in my book - didn't totally hate PM but thought the course was not very good value for money. The biggest thing it has going for it is the location across from the Radisson. I think a return to PM would really be improved by using different tees [except 18 ?] each day, if only for some variation to the course .
Kooralbyn has a great mix of holes and landscape and we did seem to have the run of the place - that Bowling Green on the Sat night is one of my great ozgolf memories.

For a lawn bowls green it seemed to handle plenty of warnie style bowling!!

P.M. for me too. Kooralbyn meant a hire car for us - and an early start to catch a flight back. The Rex room was great and the food better.
And as AndyP says - who really cares about the golf!!!!!!
Then again I did really like Bribie and the rooftop party on the FRiday night. That was a good venue too.

PM is fine I didn't really see the same part of the course twice I think the staff went out of there way for us.
KV is a long drive from the airports.
It would be interesting to see the 4 venues rated..

Its not AP.
I would say the sat scores where fine given the condition and the fact few had played before.
Blue was not hard.
The only way I would support white is if it was a stroke round but that would slow things more.
As a side note neither round was over 4:30 which is not long. Sat was a little slow but that can happen of any tee in any format.
For the length of the round you think golfers could score correctly.
CCR both days was 34pts not that bad with all the drinking.

I thought the course played easier on Saturday, but that may have something to do with not playing with a filthy hangover.

It was the wrong wind for the course. all the harder holes were down wind. What did you hit in on 4 both days? for me it was PW to 7.

I think Sat off whites and Sun off blues would work if we go back to Palm Meadows. I say that from a fairness point of view and also because it's boring playing the plates all the time.
I had a good time at both KV & PM. I think PM is a "better" course, but the course is only a part of it. The accom and food and function room were all a bit nicer at PM, but then you'd expect it to be for the extra $100. Who knows if shavey can pull off a mates rates deal like we got this year, but it's the best deal I think we'll get on the Gold Coast.
I'm happy with either. Seeing as KV isn't operating currently, the default winner would be Palm Meadows.

How do you get that....
After round one you had to go back 8 places to find someone off a hcp under 10.
I don't see why people think a short course helps high hcp players.
When you are only playing a course twice can you really get bored playing the same tees... and they were not the plates.
You are never going to win the champs without two good scores. The top scores boths days were high hcps, you had to go back 7 places on sunday to find a sub 10 hcp.

My comments have nothing to do with handicap or this years results, so not sure what that's all about....
I heard plenty of people complaining that the course was just too long for them from the tees we played. To make it more fair and/or interesting for those that dont hit it miles, I think it would be nice to have a round off the whites.

if we play PM off the whites the fairway bunkers will be in play for more golfers for the tee shot, potentially making it more difficult, the fairways seem quite wide short of the bunkers in typical resort fashion.
as it stands off the blues, most of the fairway bunkers were at a distance of 200-230, so the whites probably place them at about 170-200 which suits me much better

Criticism doesn't bother me, as it means I am doing something and people are watching.

I agree with Vegas - I think it's something worth considering no matter where we play the next Champs
