Ask any barrister, the Court process is not about the truth. Truth is unattainable. Beyond reasonable doubt is as close as you're going to get to the truth in a criminal matter. So, what judges look for instead is the evidence available along with the credibility of the witnesses. And credibility can be as much as how the witness happens to present in court. In the Pell case, the High Court didn't rule on the credibility of the witness, it was all about the circumstantial evidence.
