Will be interesting to see what happens here after the same was being considered for Marrickville GC until public outcry forced that council to back down.

It’s more than ironic that they have been happy to take all the revenue from the developers of countless apartment blocks in the area then complain about the lack of green space available for the residents.
The article just shows how much of an idiot Clover Moore is. Participation rates in golf haven't been higher in a long time because of all this COVID19 bullshit and 60000 rounds a year equates to roughly 170 rounds a day, 7 days a week! That's phenomenal! And as far as the number of visitors to Centennial park, is she really suggesting, even over the course of a year, that the entire population of Sydney visits Centennial Park 5 times over and at a rate of roughly 85000 people per day? Either I'm reading that completely wrong or she's going completely senile.
Let's hope the locals get stuck in a stick up for the club and it stays @ 18 holes.
Better get out there and have a hit to support the joint.
It’s one of the most played courses in the country so should stay open and stay 18 holes. But Clover keeps getting re-elected so presumably her constituents love this kind of decision.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!
The squeeze on land in the inner city is expected, but Moore Park is the 2nd busiest course in the country. Golf Australia and Golf NSW need to fight hard about retaining the course as a whole. Its not a top 100 course, but for a public facility it seems to be a high quality.
We all know that within 5 years, any land removed from the golf course will become earmarked for future development anyway as soon as Clover Moore loses the city of Sydney local government area.

Golf Australia will do nothing.....
This BS comes and goes every few years.
highly doubt it, brings to much revenue in.
Evidently there's a council election coming up and she's just pandering to her supporters.
It looks like it's gone past the noise stage if they have had plans drawn up.
Maybe her strategy is for the course to close and just keep the driving range as it's a revenue generator with lower costs to run.

Clover was just on ABC Radio and blamed the over development of the area on successive governments.
The council voted 8-2 to continue the process but it will be open to comments from the public.
She also claimed the same was happening on the Northern Beaches which is garbage as the Northern Beaches Council's plan to turn Warringah GC into 9 holes was voted down in 2019.
You just described her electorate, along with 1000s of uni students.
The battle is global:https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/oct/25/we-had-nudity-on-the-greens-the-battle-over-britains-golf-courses
Same sort of stuff happening in Melbourne:

She may have written the pamphlet for the new council course they’re building in Brisbane which is billed as having an 18 hole course, 2 9 hole courses and a 6 hole course...
Of course there are only 18 holes but these are the points at which you come back to the clubhouse.
SCC wants to turn MPGC into a warm-up track for the cyclists, so they can be going at full speed, when they terrorise the pensioners and children trying to use Centennial Park for family outings.
You don't get me. I'm part of the Union.
