Should they have some sort of protected ranking now, because players have not had the opportunity to defend the points that they won last year?

Only going to help Barty as she lost the round before the quarters.

Points lost for the top women's and men's players.
The biggest drops are Raonic from 30 to 46, and Kecmanovic from 46 to 61.
Andreescu drops from 6 to 11, but was injured anyway, and Kerber from 21 to 39.
Word from the tour is the ATP is looking to cancel the whole European claycourt season.
Jesus.

Heard it from Millman.
"The ATP has announced a six-week suspension of the men’s professional tennis tour due to escalating health and safety issues arising from the global outbreak of COVID-19. The suspension means all ATP Tour and ATP Challenger Tour events scheduled up to and inclusive of the week of April 20 will not take place.
It takes 8 weeks to get fit for pro tennis and one week to lose it. Major physical and mental challenges for the less well healed pro's. Lots of coin going out and with zip chance of playing exhibitions not much coin coming in.
NEW YORK - The ATP and WTA have extended the suspension of their tours until June 7, the two tennis bodies said in a joint statement on Wednesday, as the coronavirus pandemic continued to shred the sporting calendar.
The claycourt season "will not be held as scheduled" due to the suspension, the organising bodies of the men's and women's tours said. The men's ATP and women's WTA rankings will be frozen for the time.
"All decisions will be made in consultation with all bodies, except the French Tennis Federation, who are pricks."
I wonder how Barty's contracts including Kayo, Vegemite, Head, Fila, Jaguar and Rado are going to weather this storm.

Vegemite wants out!!
It may depend on whether the contracts have a Force Majeure clause.
I'm not a lawyer but 3 of my golf buddies and one told me about this, the link below explains it.

Novak🤡
Shouldn't of been a default as it was nothing compared to Sarina a few years back
And he wonders why he isn't liked as much as Federer and Nadal.
It has to be harsh, otherwise players will continue to nudge the line of acceptable behaviour.
Could you image what the penalty would be if Tiger Woods 'accidentally' smacked a golf ball at the rules official and it struck him/her on the ankle.....how is that example any different?
The ruling was correct.
I was in the crowd at Kingston Heath when Tiger threw his driver in to us.
So who wins it now?
Edberg killed a linesman at the US Open.
Serve hit him in the nuts, his head hit the ground hard as he fell and died later that day in hospital.
Lendl wasn't defaulted for intentionally hitting McEnroe from about 4 metres away when McEnroe had clearly conceded the point.
