Into week 3 of an 8 week block with the running coach.

She has me doing 4 sessions a week. Two pretty short slow runs, one longer slow run and one interval run. She's changed the interval run from 10x400m from the first two weeks to 5x800m this week so I'm looking forward to a midday vomit on Wednesday (and no doubt it'll be pissing down too which will add to the enjoyment).

What's I've found interesting is how quick the improvement is, but I guess I'm starting from a low bar. Three months ago I was totally wrecked after doing a 56 minute 10km. Yesterday I did 9km (weird number but that's what she had me do) keeping my HR below 160bpm and did it easily at 5.19/km. Backed it up this morning for 6km at the same pace about 30 minutes after a lower body weights session in the gym. It felt like my legs were made of concrete but aerobically it was easy.

This is much more fun than golf.

My entry for the "weirdest running injury of the year" award.

Running on the beach on Monday morning, completely skittled by a dog that ran under my legs. The only thing missing was the bowling ball sound effect. I flew into the air and landed hard on my side. I suspect I have a fractured rib and I have a strange lump just above my coccyx that hasn't gone down yet. No bruising, which is worrying me. Doctors are all booked out until after Christmas, but last time I fractured a rib (three months ago, only just getting my running mojo back FFS) the treatment was pretty much 'do nothing for 5-6 weeks' so there's not much they could tell me anyway.

Strangely, I can kinda run in straight lines at a moderate pace without hurting. I have three fun runs I usually do this time of year and I'm hoping it might settle enough in the next few days for me to jog my way through them. Probably dreaming though.

    Stay safe out there folks!

Continuing to run after sustaining an injury! Sounds a bit like what I continually used to do.

Do you match your shoes to your running outfits like Courty does with his golf shoes?

Good news on my front, pain is slowly subsiding and I think I might be out of the woods fracture-wise. Managed to run 5k yesterday morning without any major discomfort.

Anglesea Roo Run tomorrow evening, 8km which is a long run for me at the moment, and hills at the start so I'll be a mess by half way. Should be fun!

To counter the length of stride they told me to go to a cadence of 180. I put a metronome app on my phone and did a lap around the course to see how it went. Well, I did the first km almost a minute faster than previous runs. Seems I took more steps but they were still too long.

I have much to learn. Park Run this Saturday. Nice to join a cult.
10 weeks to go until Hyrox Melbourne. The plan is to do the Open race and hopefully do the Pro race in Brisbane in August. The ultimate goal is to qualify for the world championships in my age group. In a perfect world I get through in Melbourne and can do the Pro race as a bit of a trial and learn from it.

(It is a little odd that you can qualify fom both Open and Pro but WC is done with Pro weights).

Training is into the last block now and doing more and more Hyrox sims or station work. Doing all of the stations now at Pro weights (202kg sled pushing is fun). So hopefully I can get to Open and fly through them. Running is kind of on cruise control atm. Just doing an interval run and a long run each week. 10km runs usually about 50 mins but just controlling HR.

Will do a full Hyrox sim in a couple of weeks where we will find out where I'm really at but things are trending towards my target time of 70 mins which should be good enough to get through.

    This shit is fun. #athlete

Those stations don't sound like fun at all.

That's the balance. Get light enough to run faster or maintain enough to be able to do the stations without burning out. I'm sitting at about 91kg which is pretty close to the mark for me I think.
