Great to hear the running stories, jealous as hell.

I've spent the last week on the sofa with another 2 to go before I can get back out there. I'll have to rethink my plans for the twilight half in Aoril.

That's no good Ryan. Is it still the stress fracture? I thought you were upping your km's?

No injuries Iain, just the recovery timeline from the eye surgery. Need to stay indoors for 2 weeks to prevent infection. Then a further 1 to 2 weeks without any hard work. I can't do anything that would cause me to rub my eyes, like sweating!!

    My first 30+k run. Awesome!

I did around 32k in 2:54:30 @ 5:27min/k. Overall that's not a bad speed for a training run, but I did start out way too slow (6+ min/k). I was being conservative for the potential NT heat and it was dark (over an hour before sunrise), but I really picked it up for the second half. It ended up being a really nice morning, and I didn't face much heat at all.

I've seen it recommended that you should get five 30k+ runs under your belt before doing a marathon. So there's one out of the way, if I end up attempting one this year.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll have a crack at the Brisbane Marathon. I'm leaning towards doing the half at Gold Coast and really getting the time down.

Well done AP. Plenty of time to get those runs in before a mara!

Had my second tri today. After last weeks run I had high hopes, but I got a squizz at my time and I don't think it was what I wanted! In saying that, I was hoping to break 1 hour, meaning a near 7 minute improvement. Bit much to ask me thinks

I also stopped in the run to help a kid (like 5yrs old) who'd come acrop on her bike and another kid rode over her! Poor thing was grazed up and screaming her lungs out. Almost ended up helping her back to the start but some others came over so I ended up running again. Would have taken a minute or so of my run, but it's not sheep stations.

And I had a ball! Luv this stuff...

Well after reading about how well you blokes are doing, I decided to get of my arse and have a go myself. According to the Map my run site I just did a 5.8km run which tuned out to be a lot more uphill in parts than I first thought
It was my first good run in quite a few months so didn't expect to much. I was determined to run it out without any stops which I managed to do, but I underestimated just how hilly it was going to be. Not to sure how long it took me, maybe 45mins.

Good start, Eag's. It's amazing the hills you find, that you didn't know existed, when you are out running.

running and riding has led me to believe that the pretty flat area I live in is fit to host Le Tour with some local climbs! Wind is another killer, think it is a gentle breeze until you are running into it!

Also...last week I cracked 25min for 5km so pretty happy with that!

I had a 20km race with my running club this morning. I finished in 1:27:22 @ 4:23min/k pace. The projected half marathon time from this race was 1:32:12 (PB is 1:38:05).

It really hurt, but I'm looking in really good shape to break the 90min mark in a half marathon this year, especially once the cooler weather comes around. If I can do that, then I'll definitely turn my attention towards doing a marathon.

Which half are you thinking of? And from there which mara? Will you have enough time to rebuild your running up for a mara after the half?

GT2130's are the first time I've ever run in my life without knee pain! Was looking at gt2140's as I need to replace mine in a few months, but picked up some 2130's at rebel for $99.

Twilight (won't have time down by then though), Doomben, Gold Coast, Jetty to Jetty and Noosa. There's plenty of options.

    Brisbane Marathon, August 23.

    What's there to rebuild?

I recently got weighed prior to having a gastroscopy (whole other story) and was shocked to be over 80kg for the first time in my life.

So I'm on the couch to 5k program. The week 1 program wasn't too tough and I found some good podcasts at podrunner intervals to assist me. Boredom is the quickest way to kill my participation in anything so I need a lot of help in that area. The podcasts certainly helped there.

I have my Ipod with me on all runs except races, Bruce.

Well done on taking it up. Do you have any running history or are you literally starting from the couch?

I used to umpire footy. There's a fair bit of running in that.

But having given that up due to chronic injury 4 years ago and no cricket for 2 years I have let my cardio go by the wayside. I will have to be very careful not to re-aggravate things.

I found the couch to 5km a bit of an issue to be honest. I had a bit of a base coming in and as such treated it as pretty hard interval training which I think may have been part of the reason I got shin splints.

Doing longer slower runs seems to work better for me, that said even at the moment I feel like I am right on the edge of shin splints, some small pain in the shin but never really blows up.

    Either way, good onya Bruce!
