    Posted in 1st tee boys...

It may be my old track but I've only played there about six times in the last year! Add about another eight games and that's been my total.

Not playing all that much anymore being out of the golf industry and with bubs...

And if anything, I'm playing to about 15 at the moment so you are looking pretty good mate.

I'm hoping Ian can/will recap on the hole by hole breakdown as it was an entertaining game. We turned square and unfortunately for Iain, I began hitting my straps on the back nine with a few tap-in birdies resulting in a 3 and 2 win.

And the cart matchplay stableford was also enjoyable with PeteyD just rolling his footer in on the low side for the win

Thanks again Iain, Steve (Iain's brother-in-law who is a demon with the flatstick and had Pete and I asked questions about his 18 handicap after a few holes) and of course my cart partner, PeteyD. Fantastic day with good company, can't ask for much more than that...

And I'll also let Petey tell you about his near chip-in from 50 metres after drowning one with the approach.

Thanks to Shavey, Iain and Steve. It was a great day. Shavey hitting his straps is iron shots to inside a foot for 4 birdies on the back nine. For a couple of guys who talked their game down they both played some great golf.

Hit s nice little 50 m wedge that almost spun into the hole. Pity the lay up approach went in the drink first ... but spent most of my day just hacking it around and having a bit of fun.

We were pretty much playing matchplay so there were a few times we either picked up or were giving putts...

Off the stick, I think Iain had around 82, I had around 77 and not sure what Petey had.

Thanks to Peteyd, Shavey and my BIL Steve for the round. And congrats Shavey.

    As for a rundown,

1st - I hit drive into left fairway bunker only just able to get the ball out, left my 8 iron just short of green, but managed to get up and down for a 5, Shavey hit the fairway, hooked his 2nd, but didn't get up and down. All square

2nd - Both hit into the left fairway traps, both only hit a short iron out, still 200+ to the green, Shavey hits hybrid into front bunker, I hit fat 3 iron 100m, then get up and down from 100 out. Shavey can't make the sandy. Iain 1 up.

3rd - I hit to middle of green, Shavey hooks left of cart path. I leave my first putt way short, miss the 2nd, makes 4. Shavey hits a nice little chip that runs to about 3 or 4 feet, sinks it. All square.

4th - I hit a horrible top for my drive, lose the ball. Make 4 with my 2nd, gives me 6. Shavey plays a good safe hole for 4. Shavey 1 up

5th - I pushed my drive slightly just off the cart path, Shavey is in the bunkers left. I hit 7 iron to 80m, then a bad pitch way short, then 3 putt. Shavey hits out of bunker then iron left and long but gets up and down for a half. Shavey 1 up

6th - I hit 7 iron long into back bunker (Shavey then proceeds to tell me it always plays short!), Shavey hits fat pulled 8 iron leftside of green, 2 putts for a 3. I hit a good bunker shot, but ran too much down the hill, only manage a 4. Shavey 2 up

7th - Both hit drives right, and 2nd shots long. I hit a good chip to a foot make 4. Shavey's chip runs too much through green, and then his putter gets caught on the grass. Shavey 1 up

8th - I get a shot here. I hit hybrid down the right, shavey hits hybrid left into the water, I hit PW about 20 feet past hole, Shavey drops, hits wedge to just off front of green. I can my 20 footer for bird and win the hole. All square

9th - Shavey goes left, I hit skinny drive down middle. Shavey puts his 2nd on, but way short, I hit fat wedge, then pitch up to about 6 feet. Shavey hits first putt way short, then lips out the 2nd for a 5. I lip out my par putt. All square

10th - Both hit good drives, Shavey then hits 5 iron to about 2 feet, looked good all the way!! I hit 7, but it drew a little to much, leaving me a tough left to right downhiller which I leave to the right, only make 5. Shavey sinks the bird. Shavey 1 up

11th - Both hit decent drives, Shavey then shanks/blades his 2nd right into bush, I hit 6 iron to 100 out, Shavey takes a couple more to get to front of green, I hit onto left mound, almost chip in for birdie, but makes 5, Shavey has a long putt but struggles to get it halfway. All square

12th - I get my 2nd and final shot here, and proceed to cold top one about 80-100m's. Shavey hits just short of left trap, I hit hybrid just short of water on right, then hit a high pitch to 15 feet. Shavey hits his 2nd to a couple of feet, makes bird, I just miss my 15 footer for a half. Shavey 1 up

13th - Both get good drives away, both hit the green and 2 putt. Shavey 1 up

14th - Shavey hits just right off the green, I hit straight at the pin, about 10 -12 feet short. Shavey hits a great chip to tap in distance, I just miss my putt to the left. Shavey 1 up

15th - I push my drive, hits a tree and ends up in a fairway bunker, Shavey hits down the middle. I hit a great 6 iron, straight at the pin, just runs through to the back of green, Shavey hits 9 iron to about 1", I'm not sure how it didn't go in, as it was behind the hole. I missed the putt. Shavey 2 up

16th - I once again pushed my drive right into fairway bunkers, Shavey hit a good drive down the right side. I had to go for it, but hit my hybrid fat into the trees, had to chip out, then hit 4 iron onto back of green. Shavey hit iron just short, then chipped to 2 foot. I almost holed my chip for par, just slid by on the right. I conceded, Shavey won 3 and 2.

It was a good, if not scrappy match, but Shavey really turned it on on the back nine. I ended up shooting my handicap for the 18 holes, which I think would've beaten 90% of people, but wasn't good enough on the day.
