    Default PC remote control tools

Ok IT folk, I'd like some suggestions.

I want to remote control my server from my PC. Everything is running on my internal LAN, not across the internet, with no firewalls in between. Very simple setup.

I have tried Windows Remote Control and that works, however the one application that I am using the server for (Swann security camera software) can not be displayed across the connection. It gets an error.
So I am looking for some suggestions as to other free tools to try. Is VNC an option (I don't know anything about it). I want to connect direct from PC to server without going through a 3rd party hosting service...

    Flood me with usefull information

I use Symantec PC Anywhere... not bad, VNC Is a good low overhead option.

If your server is Windows 2000/2003, you should connect using Remote Desktop. Otherwise the best tool is Dameware. We use VNC at work, and while it's lightweight, it's not as good as Dameware in my books.

    Fix it

I dont think many of the applications for remote terminals will display video very well at all.

Camera applications shouldnt have any trouble streaming the video across a network, because by nature thats the whole idea of it.

Tried fixing it to no avail......

I have been playing with TeamViewer witch is really good, but you have to connect to a 3rd party server......that sucks.

I'll give Dameware a go, thanks Fish.

It's a fantastic tool for management of remote PC's, Mini-Remote is just a component of the program.

    1. ultra VNC (open source, java on port 80 (no exe on client) or port based) better then realVnc as it supports ftp & chat etc.
    2. Dameware/mini remote (client can install the server on a remote pc)
    3. remote desktop (locks the pc you are loging into)
    4. PC anywhere (old)
    4. Tarentalla (java based)

Thanks guys. In the end I got TeamViewer working without requiring internet access and it is excellent.
I'd highly recommend it for people who need to support their friends or relatives PC's across the net also. Great idea.
