    Default Tempo tips

When I think back after a round, I've noticed that I tend to swing harder and faster later in the round. What tips do you have for getting your tempo right during a round (I'm not talking about using an iPod on the range). I just need a simple trigger to ease up a little and not try to belt the cover off it.

My coach told me to make sure i check my grip pressure towards the end of the round ..... he also told me to make sure i step back and really try and visualise my next shot before i try and make the swing.

    Hope that helps County

Thanks J. I already do the visualisation thing before each shot, but I'll try to remember the grip pressure thing.

I have never thought about this. My golf course gets longer towards the end of the round, maybe its a good thing to go harder....

Courty, I read once about how Ernie Els keeps great tempo buy using a 3 count for his whole swing. As in count 1 for the back swing, 2 at the top and 3 for the downswing.
It keeps the swing in sinc and everything will be moving nice and smoothly. I have used this tip from time to time to slow myself down when I feel I am getting quick and tight.

Marks tip on grip pressure is also a good one, I find myself really squeezing the crap out of my clubs which leeds to loss of feel and rhythm.

Eags, sounds like the "Inner Game of Golf/Tennis"

The idea is the 2 count is at the exact point of top of swing and 3 count is exactly at impact. And the method is to say it out loud, not inside the head.

Next time i play you in matchplay i'll be mumbling, 4,11,7 in the background.....

Good old Back/Hit or DA DA DA. Inner game works ok if you remember to do it!

You would remember to do it if you used it in practice as well.

    Courty,

I second Tour tempo. The great thing is that you can use it when you practise. IMO, tempo is something that should be practised and the more you do it, the more likely that you'll swing with good tempo during the round.

I've been getting lazy with practising tempo and it's showing. I'm going to go back to it. If you want the mpeg file for Tour Tempo, shoot me a PM.

I was talking about practice. You look pretty stupid saying DA DA DA on the first tee ...

I can't help ya. I play better when I'm gee'd up and a bit excited or tense. When I relax is when I start to spray it.

I try to get in the habit of taking a couple of deep breaths before I address the ball.

If you do this before every shot it may help keep the same tempo through the round.

well guys the proof in the puddin so to speak for me anyway.

Tempo is everything i worked on it all round when i finally got it my game improved out of site.

    1 - for the takeaway
and - to get to the top
    2 - for the release

    It works

now for some time on the range if i can maintain that tempo im sure my handicap will come down quick smart.

Hold the club between your thumb and forefinger, at the tip of the grip. Let it swing back and forth like a pendulum... 2-3 swings back & forth should do. Rinse & Repeat.

Late in yesterdays round I knew I was swinging too quick. I remembered to check my grip pressure and found I was hanging on too tight. Unfortunately, loosening my grip only meant that the club started slipping, not slowing down my tempo.

Say "Severiano Ballesteros" during your swing.

I wouldn't get to "Se-", maybe on an entire round I would get it out
