    Yeah, "get over it!"

    http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599...8-1243,00.html

Bishop 'should be ashamed' of comments

THE father of two girls repeatedly raped by a Catholic priest has questioned the credibility of Bishop Anthony Fisher and his role in the church and World Youth Day (WYD).

Bishop Fisher, who is WYD co-ordinator, said yesterday that media attention paid to the abuse of sisters Emma and Katherine Foster was detracting from the positivity of the Catholic youth festival.
"I think most of Australia was enjoying, delighting in the beauty and goodness of these young people ... rather than dwelling crankily, as a few people are doing, on old wounds," he said.
The girls' parents, Anthony and Christine Foster, arrived at Sydney airport this morning after flying from Britain.
The couple is seeking an audience with Sydney Archbishop Cardinal George Pell to discuss the church's handling of priest Kevin O'Donnell's rape of their daughters when they were in primary school.
O'Donnell died in prison about 10 years ago, and the Fosters have accused Dr Pell of stalling their compensation claim.
Emma Foster committed suicide this year at the age of 26, while her sister Katherine drank heavily before being left disabled when hit by a drunk driver in 1999.
Mr Foster said today that the fact Bishop Fisher's comments came in direct response to questions about his family took them "from outrageous to disgusting, given that our daughter only died six months ago".
    "It's incredibly insensitive," he said.
"I really wonder about the credibility of the man to hold the position he does both in the church and in World Youth Day."
Mr Foster said Bishop Fisher should be ashamed.
"I would like to address the outrageous comments and attitude of Bishop Anthony Fisher, which we have found to be endemic to people unaware of the impact of sexual assault," he said.
"The ... `old wounds' he speaks of, never heal and victims of sexual assault suffer all their life.
"There is no place for his comments and he should be absolutely ashamed of them."

Maybe the Bishop was commenting on something he has no knowledge of the details of, which makes him stupid rather than heartless. Also have to question why this has been brought up now, and not next week or last week. anyway not defending the Catholics, just not wanting to make statements based on some wanker journos telling of a story.

Am I the only one who is worried about a Bishop saying "I think most of Australia was enjoying, delighting in the beauty and goodness of these young people..."

particularily when it was some wanker journo who raised the subject in the first place.

apart from that, i cant work out who Poidda is telling to 'get over it' the Bishop, the Journo or the Father?

Oh, my emoticons weren't enough I see. The point is it seems this bishop is practically telling the father to get over the fact his 2 daughters were raped by their local priest, and enjoy this weeks celebrations.

And as for the timing PeteyD, why not? Less chance of it being ignored or swept under the table. Can you blame the parents?

Chillingly, he claimed our technology is "not nearly as sophisticated" as theirs and "had they been hostile", he warned "we would be been gone by now".

Notice how the article doesn't detail any proof or eyewitness testimony.

    What a load of crap.

I did a quick dig and I'm not convinced this was even Mitchell talking.

A late night talk show on a small regional station takes a call from someone presenting as Mitchell and suddenly this bombshell turns up.

I would not be surprised to hear this is a hoax. Either that or Mitchell has lost the plot.

Edit to add - It is the latter. It looks like Mitchell lost the plot a looong time ago.

The best part about this news piece are the comments in the Have your say section at the bottom.

I reckon Ed from Kalaru is on to something there.

In other news (not yet published), some bloke threw himself off a 10-storey building within full view of our office today.

It was full-on, from our office (level 26 of a nearby building) you could see the negotiators haggling, chatting and on occasions making headway. At times he'd move away from the edge, at times he'd be right on the edge.

About an hour later he ended it by jumping off backwards.

Of course a couple of girls who were watching are shattered. Think about it - he's either going to come down gracefully, or not. Why watch?

Turned traffic into a nightmare in the CBD too as the 'crime scene' had to be excluded, forcing buses into other parts of the city. How very selfish of him.

My uncles partner tried to use reverse psychology on a jumper like that (like in the movies). He told the bloke that he agreed he was useless, failure, loser etc and he should jump - so he did. splat
