    Default Golfers Elbow

Does anyone have a magical cure for this ill.

At various times in the past I have got it quite badly in my right elbow normally from hitting off mats for too long. A few physio visits normally settles it down.

Problem now is it has appeared in both elbows (worse in the left) and I have not been near mats and have hardly practised for months so unsure why it has appeared at all. Anti inflammatory tablets and cream are making it marginally bearable but it is getting to the point where normal day to day activities are becoming difficult at times.

    Remedies / solutions anyone ??????????????

Dont worry about it, as you get older you will forget about it, as there will be new pains that will annoy you more.

I had this last year. Put up with it for about 6 months and it was getting worser and worser Went to a massage guy who specialised in Chinese massage for my back. He asked anything else wrong - I said I've got a dodgy elbow - he played around with it - and really hurt - but never had a problem since. Just a matter of finding the right person.
He lives in Mornington ( VIC)- not very helpful am I?????

Sorry, no remedy but my suggestion is Neurofen. May not cure it but best thing for aches for a 4-hour period that I know of.

    Hi Chris

I have the same problem with my left elbow. Rest of the best cure, don't hit ball for 3 months and the elbow be back to almost normal.

I find the Chinese herbal medication that one can apply to the elbow is quite good, but they have a very strong smell. So it is no good if you need to go near other people in your work.

As far as anti-inflammatory creams/gels go the best I've found is one called Rapigel. You buy it from produce places that sell horse products as it is used on horses and dogs for trackwork. It is pretty much the same as voltaren etc but stronger. I was hesitant to use it at first, but last time I checked I still hadn't grown a tail or any excess body hair (although I am now hung like a horse).

    Chris
If you don't want to end up racing against one of Jack's nags and end up in the glue factory, I have found a combination of Nurofen Plus (Ibuprofen helps the inflammation, codiene kills the pain) and an anti-inflammatory gel of choice (voltaren, nurofen gel etc). It's not a long term cure but it will get you playing again. To increase it's efficacy, take them all just before you play and drink some alcohol, trust me you won't be worrying about golfers elbow while you play.

Do those gels work for smaller joints like the wrist? I've been getting steadily worse pain in my right wrist lately when playing golf. A couple of times yesterday I almost dropped the club after impact, it's hurting so much. It almost feels like a small bone is broken on the underside/little finger side of my wrist, where the fleshy part meets the joint...

I'll give it one more try next Sat, then I may need to take some time off in case I cause more permanent damage.

Visited the physio/accupunturist at lunch. Seems I've sprained the ligaments in my wrist. Will have to give golf a miss for a while to give the joint a chance to recover.

Then set about strengthening/stabilising it. Jarro/Jack et al. I may need some inspiration for that phase of things.

That stinks. Do you know when you sprained it? From golf?

You're very proactive. I've been carrying a knee injury for ages, and am yet to go to the physio.

It's been getting steadily worse for 2 months now, and I just decided (at Courty's urging) to go see if there was something really wrong with it. I figured it was probably arthritis or tendonitis or something that nurofen would fix.

Yeah, I think I did it hitting too many punch shots. then every subsequent game of golf has aggravated it. I've noticed lately that after two or three shots on the range before a game, the pain returns.

    Default Ice pack

Ive suffered with 'golfers elbow' for a while, my left one after ive hit some bad shots can be almost unbearable at times. I use brufen and voltaren for my arthritis used deapheat and other rubs on my arm but didn't help a lot until a good friend of mine who is a social footballer told me that the best thing to use is to rest it with an ice pack on it, he said that when the elbow cools down it is the best time for it to heal then put on an elbow guard/cover and further rest it and dont strain it. But I cannot stop playing, I do this before and after a game and this and it worked a treat for me. I play on the Sundays and practice twice a week during which I hit about 90-100 balls per practise session. I cool it down before I play then put the guard on and do the same when I 'm at home. If you try then I hope it helps.
    Cheers

I am resurrecting this thread because I am now a sufferer.

Three weeks ago, after going for a pushbike ride on Sunday after a golf game Saturday, my left arm started to get a bit sore.

It appears I am now experiencing tennis elbow in my left arm. When I straighten my arm, the top of the joint and the muscles high in the forearm are a bit sore.

From a golfing perspective this is a bit odd, because my internet research tells me golfers usually get it in their right elbow (for right handers) due to the hinging motion of the right elbow. So I don't really know what caused it, and as other contributors have noted, there doesn't seem to be a surefire cure.

Apparently, tennis elbow affects the tendons on the top/outside of the elbow, and golfers elbow affects the inside/bottom of the elbow (I read this on the internet, so it must be true).

I played golf today, and survived it, but it wasn't totally pain-free. Hopefully, I haven't caused more damage. At the moment, it doesn't feel any worse, but it isn't any better, either.
