Thanks 'Fit. Have gone pretty hard, and if the numbers I have are right (obviously there's no hard-set exact profit margin % on vehicles but I've been told it's 6-8% as a general rule), then I've got well over half that margin off the retail price, and some nice little accessories also.

Let's just say that I'm pretty good at "Playing the waiting game".

At least behind him you don't have to listen to him.

Just wondering if there has been an update on this car hunt as I am now in a similar position and considering the Navara so definitely interested in the outcome

Happy for it to be via PM if you want

I bought my car using Southgate Fleet.
No fees, upfront or otherwise. Get a quote back in 1 day. No hard sell.
Their quote was cheaper than another mob I had to pay $50 up front.

So its doesnt hurt anything to give them a try. Even just to get a bargaining chip for the local yards.

The recent spate of things falling off or breaking on my 1984 car leads to me to consider a new one. I've had this Toyota Sprinter for about 23 years and its time may be up. I have only really considered a new Toyota 86 but price sort of puts me off. Not a car person so unsure what is in the market at all or would compare to an 86. I would like a coupe or hatch ideally. Any thoughts appreciated.

There should be plenty of used 86's on the market by now.

What's your budget, and what do you need size, speed, reliability, economy, kids seats etc - is fitting golf clubs in the boot a mandatory requirement?

Not really after anything used - I am guessing anything new these days would be reliable? - love the 86 shape so that's a biggie for me - don't cart kids around- drop a seat down and the clubs should fit. Probs could afford a new one somehow but almost had a heart attack when I found out how much...

As usual you are the ozgolf voice of reason [probably should have your own website] - although I take exception to the old bloke bit....

I'm at 493000 kms and always wanted to see the 500000 click over - just another 6 months or so - maybe it'll last

So wondering what peeps think of Subaru Liberty's? Starting to get an idea of what will replace the magna when its had enough. More lights stay on on the dash when driving than light up Vegas. We might get a few years out of it still..... But...... We could be lucky and it'll die sooner.

Price wise, I'd say we'd have to look at 3 to 5 years old, based on what we'd be happy repaying. Of course, we'd have to get the money in the first place. Say 15 to 20k. I'd still want a wagon. It's one of the few Rob likes the look of.

We have a 2012 Subaru Outback and it is a great car and the liberty was basically the same internally and it is just the outside that is different. I don't think you could go wrong with a liberty there goughy.

If fuel consumption is high on your priority list I would look carefully at owners reviews, not sure what the specs sheet compares like with other makes/models of similar cars, but I have only ever heard people complain about Subarus fuel consumption.

The wife had one for a fair few years and loved it - still misses it to this day. Was an 07 I think from memory and it was generally really reliable - just not practical once we had a child on the way.

    A few things:

    - Like many European cars - lots of brake dust, and is hard on disks. I replaced them once when she first got it and I think she had to get them done again a few years later
    - Servicing was dear because she did it through the BMW dealer, but it's wasn't too bad through the local independent. And they don't need servicing all that often, I think it was variable service interval from memory
    - Check the supercharger over, probably expensive to fix, mechanic reckons hers had a bit of a knock in it, but it never caused us an issue
    - They're not very spacious (obviously) but fun to drive...
    - Oh, she also found hers was a bit fussy on fuel. Didn't like Woolworths stuff. And I'm pretty sure they're only supposed to be run on 95+ RON but that's not too uncommon these days.
    - It was actually reasonably economical if you didn't drive it like a maniac too

I drove it a reasonable amount so if there's anything specific you want to know I will try and answer if I can.

Time to move the Subaru Forester XT for a bigger family car and ideally we are looking at a Diesel SUV or wagon. Bonus is 7 seats.

Budget is around $50k and top of my list is a Kia Sorento...is there other cars I should look at as well???
