    Default Brisbane CBD

    Morning all,
To anyone that would like to be of assistance I would be greatly appreciative.
I’m a student of Architecture, and I’m concentrating 2007’s study on Brisbane CBD.
I’ve visited most of the worlds great city’s and acknowledge that there are elements that set them apart from most other cities. The Brisbane city council is encouraging work that could lift Brisbane into the scope of a word class city.

Help me find what is GOOD in the CBD.

I’m formulating ideas regarding urban space a movement. And I’m hoping to find existing good elements in the city as activators. For example the some people would like Suncorp Stadium in the city or the Roma st. parklands (example of some major things) or the iron sculptured Kangaroos around the mall (as the other extreme as something minor).

If anyone could list the one thing they enjoy most about Brisbane that would be great.
If everyone finds this far to thought provoking for a public holiday, I wont be offended .
    Cheers, Kent

The highway out of town. My only truly memorable feature of the city.

Was that the one heading to Toowoomba Fishy?

Clikchic was saying the proximity to the river. Especially considering it's not straight but winding, it reaches many areas of the cbd. But is it underutilised? What great features are there along the river? Isn't there that good will bridge thingy? Or did it fall into the river?

    Thankyou guys.
Yes the river is underutilised and a key part of what makes brisbane. Do people like the bridges that exist and/or the 1/2 dozen proposed bridges for the next 10 years.
Australian citys were very generous with the location of botanical gardens and brisbane is no exception here.
    What were the waterfalls pete?
And as bad as it may sound the express-way is actually fairly iconic of the city (good or bad i'm not sure) so you raise a decent point fishman.

That Gateway bridge is pretty spectacular. I live near the Gladesville bridge in Sydney and they are very similar, especially when you get to the peak and can look out for miles in any direction.

The Multiplex proposal on North Bank is indicative of what can be done badly. The Brisbane River still requires its flow path and flood capacity to be retained. Building structures like that out into the river seems to be counterproductive. It's been a generation since the '74 floods. It will happen again.
Allow the river to be seen.
    Opinions -
The Treasury is a beautiful building. The BCC building with its blocks of colour near the base is not.

After every witty/smart arse comment of yours g69 I see that smiling face of yours at the bottom left of the post. It's like you have your own personal smilie emoticon.

Now I don't take anything you say seriously!

Now that I do lunchtime exercise, I like all the walkways around the river. You can get from Toowong to New Farm, as well as Kangaroo Point to West End and not leave the riverside.

I thought the Goodwill Bridge was stupid before, now I don't.
The Southbank beach at lunchtimes can be good too.

I'll tell you what else is cool - the River walk along the pontoon's on the actual river itself. Very cool. My sister in law used to walk to work from New Farm along that every day.
