Also a quick note for people who buy those Golf Pride grips off the eBay and various other knockoff shops.
The weights are WAY WAY heavier.

The batch some guy just brought me were meant to be 58 grams.. lightest one came in at 69 with most being 71-73grams.

if you like a C8 swing weight.. this is good. but trap for young players if you want to have any feel in the club at all

Interesting. I bought some counterfeit GP Multi-compounds, and they were considerably lighter than genuine.

Maybe not the right thread, but i bought the Auditor MOI scales from Daves "garage" sale. Free for any Ozgolfer to use, but you need to come to me or courier. I dont think these babies like to travel.

One of the cool things it does, when you enter your desired MOI, it can tell you the exact weight change to apply to the head.

Yep, they're good aren't they...? Using MOI to build is way better than swing weight for real life accuracy, but it can mean the clubs feel different in your hands if one of the shafts used (or heads) is out of spec.

For example, the head weight is 2g below spec, and the shaft weight is -2g less than the next iron shaft... that means that the head weight required to get the correct MOI would be less, and then the swing weight would feel different.

That's because MOI is the measurement of how much force is required into the shaft to get to the desired number, so you want them all to be the same (but head weights, shaft weights, shaft flex (cpm) and grip weights rarely are)

I have 2 fake MCC plus4 grips that camo on my wedges, the weight is spot on, very small sample size though, and I have no idea where they are from.

So if I'm reading this right a lighter grip increases the swing weight, and obviously vice versa?

Correct, roughly 5g grip weight for a 1 SW change.

It will "trick" the scale, but have no noticeable affect on actual dynamics.

Is that because 1 SW point is undetectable or that changing the butt weight is undetectable?

I believe Daves moi test highlight it, as does my testing.

I build my clubs to a desired SW using a std 50w grip. But my choice of grip is a 65g midsize. Which affects the SW by approx 3pts.

I don't notice what the scale says is a lighter swingweight. It also has very minimal affect on MOI as Daves showed. I think thats the correlation.

Technically you could make a club at D2 that had a 50g heavier head, and you'd need a 125g heavier grip to keep the SW the same.

    I guarantee that wouldn't "feel" like a stock D2.

I dont really agree with this, but i am a scratch marker and my experience will be different to others.

A 72gr midsize grip will turn D2 into C8, and with a lighter shaft - say, 85-105, it will change not only the swing weight but also the feel of the balance point in the shaft - it moves it towards the grip and removes some feel of where the club is loading.

But it is a great way to get someone older or weaker into standard length for the same reason. You can go softer shaft and the player can really feel the club load. i have even put lead tape under the grip to counter balance the club - so it isnt always a bad thing.

But for mine and again.. just opinion, i need to feel that bend about 2/3rds of the way down, but not in the head and def not in the grip. Heavy grips just butcher this feel with 120gr+ shafts. I need to feel the upper body load against that weight especially when shaping the ball or lowering the flight.
