How many new members have joined to spam ?

More of a question for AP but I see someone called mortgrefinan joining and creating a thread in the Sports Bar and I am a little intrigued ?

Are there many trying to spam us ??

A lot of members join, probably with the intention of spamming, but there isn't really that much. We even get spam from non-registered users via the Contact Us area (I think I may have stopped this today).

All I can do is remove the thread and ban/delete the user. I've also banned several email domains from registering in the future. Occasionally I go through the user list and just delete those that have never posted and haven't logged in for some time.

If it gets really bad, I can make it such that any new users have their initial posts moderated before they go to the public forum.

Also they'll quite often go through the registration process, which means they will show up on the member's list, but never actually activate it from the automatic email that they are sent.

Mark, could you please take the time to ensure you type these responses so that everyone can understand them

"one of these new members" is surely more correct than your shortened version

.. few more newbies over the last couple of days.

Nobody seems interested in welcoming themselves to us anymore either

Unfortunately some of them with names like acnepro will more than likely be spammers. But since they use automated systems which don't react to the activation email they never post. Some do and get cut immediately.

But a big welcome to all the genuine new members. I'm sure plenty of them are around. Have a look in the 1st tee forum if you're after a game, or post your interest there.

It's great to see 'Drugviagra' listed as the newest member.

I'm looking forward to some of his golfing insights. I've heard he is an expert on shafts.

I've just done another cull of members. What a waste of time?

Also added terms banned from registered email addresses.
Apologies to all potential Russian members, but '.ru' is not gone, as is '.info' & '.biz'.
Email addresses with 'video', 'movies', 'meds', 'incest' , 'mortgage', 'loan', 'trade' & 'viagra', will no longer make it in.

Of course, I'm sure there will still be plenty of potential spammers joining.

Lots of new members lately, although you could use the word member fairly loosely for most of them.

I've given them my own special welcome.

I sure am going to miss DiscountCigarettes contribution to the forum though.
