warning: major boast alert in this post.

I had 42 points today. Best round in I don't know how many years. I was 1 under after 13 and planning my cracked the game post, but the magic went away and I played normal golf for 4 bogies in the last five holes.

Hit the ball well, but the score was all putting. I holed 4 putts from about 20 feet in the first 8 holes, and didn't miss a short one until 17, when I was in full defend my score mode.

Couple of ordinary rounds on Wednesday and today...32 points on Wednesday that was a disappointment after turning at 19 points, however I am working on getting my driver back to its normal operations.

Today I shot 90/80 in the Gailes black marker event, however only really had 2-3 bad holes, including an 8 on the par 3 12th. After a crappy break from the tee shot I ended up in some useless moron's unraked footprint in the face of a bunker and well yeah.
The driver was improved in terms of fairways hit (9/15) but still struggling to find the middle of the face, or close enough to it, a lot of them are towards the heel. Not sure what's going on with that but I'm sure I'll work it out eventually. I didn't hit the irons as well today, kept hitting these annoying fades and missing right. Still, apart from those couple of crappy holes I did enjoy it for the most part.

Started on 10, hit it like a busted for 14 points to the turn then 22 round the front for 36 total.

    I don’t understand it but it’s a funny game.

Very frustrating day at North Haven.
Driver was on song early hitting all our narrow Brazilian strip fairways until the 9th when I pushed it just on the tree line with the ball doing a disappearing trick.
Not that it mattered as I stuffed every iron shot into the greens to completely stuff all but one of those holes anyway.
Hit the driver poorly on the back nine and iron and chipping didn’t improve either to barely average 1pt a hole. Only hit one clean/solid iron shot for the whole day on the 14th hole. Game was way off.
    Stats
    24pts (13-11)
    1x Birdie
    1x 3 jiggle
    1x lost ball
    3x left handed shots
    6x massively duffed chip shots

It’s hard to get comfortable/confident with the short game when your 3-5m off the green and on fairway and your 1 club length preferred lie can’t find a bit of grass to place the ball on.

    2nd game back.

39 points off 9 with 4 birdies, 2 doubles, no 3 putts, 1 knifed chip and bogeyed all but one par 4. Still don't love the feel of the Modus 105's but the results where pretty good.

Edit, I won A Grade Nett and didn't lose any off my handicap.

After Saturdays not so fun hitting from crap dirt lies all day mostly on a grassed course I thought I may a well go play a course Sunday where that’s all that is on offer. Really it was a cross one off the list never played before.

Struck the driver and irons solid all day which was welcoming after the previous days disaster. My sand greens short game was a little rusty early going long on what was quick scrapes due to a thin not thick layer of material. Dialled in the pace for the last two thirds of the round.
Low light of the day was loosing a ball on the 17th. Hit a great drive into wind on the 399m par 4. Pulled the 5iron in around 15m green high. Saw it land near the white dolomite cart path. Get to where the ball should be and nothing to be found. The ground is dead flat and there was no weeds for a ball to hide in. I can only guess the ball was pinched by a crow as there was a murder of them making a hell of a racket in the trees about 30m away or it rolled into the big snake/goanna hole in the very area where I saw the ball land.

    Stats
    81 (41-40) Par 70
    1x birdie
    2x doubles

I had a qualifying score of 35 points today, so I had best report it in.
I started with 6 pars in a row, and thought I was in for another really good day, but reality struck, and I didn't play very well from that point on.

Couple of reasonable rounds over the weekend after kinda working out a way to get my ball striking better with these shoes (everything feels like it sits a little different in them and I'd been struggling to get good contact)

Par on Saturday, finished square with the card. I quite like this format, particularly that it kinda forces me to concentrate on one hole at a time.

34 points yesterday, irons weren't quite at their best but the short game made up for it most of the time.
Nice to play some better golf again.

    Default WDYS - March 2025

This must be a record for the latest starting of a new monthly thread. Either we are losing interest, or we all have personal rules that we only post good rounds.

I did more than just qualify for a good round using my personal rules, I played my best golf for a really long time today. I did record a better score recently, but today's 40 points was my best striking I can remember. Even par on our much harder back nine, and it was great fun hitting really good shot after really good shot.

For those counting, my last 5 rounds have been 42, 35, 27, 26 and 40. Now that's consistency!

Cheeky 39pts at Maryborough gets back into the 8's thank ****.

First swing if a club in 3 weeks, teeing off 10 had a pretty slack first 9, finishing 7 over and 16pts.

Gave myself a good talking to at the turn, played the 2nd 9 in -1 with 6 pars, 2 birdies and a bogey.

Unfortunately, 40pts took A grade out, and 9 of us on 39pts meant my crappy 16pts on the back 9 was only good for 9th.

DQ'd myself in the second round of club champs today. Had a blowup in a bunker on the 15th and just had enough. No chance of a decent finish in it anyway after an ordinary first round and pretty crappy up to that point today as well. Played out the last 3 holes for a bit of practice.

I don't know what it is about the bunker rakes there but they always leave these deep wide grooves in the sand along the edges of the rake, which my ball ended up in on 15. Might as well have been in an unraked footprint. There is a way to avoid leaving those grooves but most people don't do it properly...I wish they'd go back to the old style rakes that never did that. I get that they're a hazard and I don't expect a perfect lie but that kind of shit isn't good enough either.

I'll get back into reporting scores after a break from reporting.

I played socially yesterday and had a pretty good ball striking day. Driving was better than it has been in recent times. I got a little greedy on a couple of holes and wore doubles because of it, but three kakaas was a nice reward for the good stuff. I left a couple of straight putts short of the hole on the lightly sanded greens, when I was in the groove too.

    Holes 1-4: +4. Holes 5-15: -1. Holes 16-18: +3. A +6 for 73 overall.

Played RC 1-18 today. Started on 5, playing off 6. Had a 10 foot birdie putt on 1, left a roll short.

Pretty much summed up my first 5 holes. Three putted 6, three putted 7, three putted 8 and left a 8 foot par putt a roll short on 9.

Back 9 was a slight improvement, was even from 12 through to the 4th.

Ended up with 33 points and beat my mate who had been hanging shit on my all week.

Shots of scotch and beers before lunch on a Monday are great.

    33 with another birdie.

I’m in the midst of a dominant period where I feel I’ve almost conquered the game.

33 with a birdie as well, on Sunday. Definitely not in a dominant period though 😂
