Terrible. An awful year, where for a large part of it I wasn't enjoying golf and didn't really want to play.
Did you achieve what you wanted to achieve?
No.
Did your golf game go backwards or forwards?
Backwards. Putting, putting and putting. I had a stretch of three rounds with 5, 6 and 5 three-putts in consecutive rounds. I had the distance yips, where I simply couldn't get anything over 25 feet within 5 feet. Usually short, but sometimes long, and as soon as I missed a short one, I missed all of them.
Are there any outstanding experiences from the year, that you'd like to share?
I already shared my experience of visiting St Andrews for the Ladies Open. All serious golfers should visit St Andrews. It is everything you want, and more.

Did you play some great courses?

. Playing Pennant for the first time in ages. My club from a committee perspective do not support Pennant Season and it took alot of work by a few guys to get a chopper team into the comp to go with our D2 side.
Also a quick trip to Melbourne with Shadesy and PTP.

Did you achieve what you wanted to achieve?
Didn't set anything to achieve personally. Wanted to be payikgbdicodionnone Pennant again, which truth be told if everyone in the club wanted to play I probably would've missed, but thankfully a couple of guns were out this year and I scraped into the side to play number 3 or 4. Taking that out over the shittest course in FNQ was nice.
A surprise 3rd in the Gross for Club Champs was also nice, especially considering the lack of form going in.
Did your golf game go backwards or forwards?
Didn't move, as always. Over the last 5 years my high and low is 4.7 and 1.5 and have never been remotely near soft cap, so my game just doesn't go anywhere. Lack of practice, lack of care, I guess.
Are there any outstanding experiences from the year, that you'd like to share?
Did you play some great courses?
Got around to a few, I guess. VIC Champs (and secret rounds) featuring Yarra Yarra, PK North & South & Kingston Heath was nice, as was a quick trip down to Tassie to play Royal Hobart. While there we also played Llanherne Claremont and Pittwater, which are a couple of hidden gems, even if you do require a Stackhat for Claremont. Also played Heywood in September, so was nice to "get back home".

Review How did you go?
Not too bad. Finally got the bag all sorted, which is nice not to be playing a real hodge-podge of mixed brands and shafts, etc. Once again, thank you to everyone who gave / sold me stuff at very nice prices, much appreciated. Certainly makes the game that LITTLE bit easier.
Did you achieve what you wanted to achieve?
I guess so? Hit single figures and stayed there or thereabouts. Broke 80 for the first time, and am now achieving a bit more consistency with my last 8 rounds being 11.5 over on average, so the BIG blowout games are HOPEFULLY mostly gone.
Did your golf game go backwards or forwards?
Forwards, which I would have hoped for considering I'm still relatively early in this journey. I have an exceptional score to come out of my cap in 5 rounds time, so hopefully that doesn't blow me out too far when that falls off.
A lot more consistent off the tee, and my putting has improved from long range, not a lot of three putts happening now, which is nice. Bump and run chips are getting there, even little 30m Pitching Wedges. But I'm still shit scared of having to hit a 50° and up off a tight lie, or trying to flop / loft up basically anything. Iron shots can still range from exceptional to exceptionally shithouse.
Are there any outstanding experiences from the year, that you'd like to share?
The breaking 80 was pretty special, as was watching Ron Burgundy get fish-hooked, which happened after a right-handed round, so I'm counting it.

This is a tricky one, as I don't want to set expectations too high. There's every chance the 7-10 mark is about as low as I ever get, as there's definitely limitations on my game that I'm just never going to fully fix as that would require practice.
Obviously I want to get that low score down, something closer to 76 or 77 would be magic, but that would require a lot of things going right for 18 holes, which is a big ask.
Got any golfing holidays planned?
Not with the righty, no.

How did you go? Can't complain. Well, I can, but won't. Played plenty, didn't practice enough. Went back for second helpings of Vic Champs and loved it again. Played the QLD Mid Amateur for the first time, but work stuff got in the way and I didn't play very well as a result.
Did you achieve what you wanted to achieve? I think my goal was to practice more and get more consistent. I didn't practice more, and not sure I got more consistent. So I guess no.
Did your golf game go backwards or forwards? Hard to say. I had a pretty long patch of ordinary golf after Vic Champs, but finished the year OK. Think I've improved a bit, driver is a bit more consistent, long irons are a bit better, putting has been good. Wedges haven't been great.
Are there any outstanding experiences from the year, that you'd like to share? Cleaned up at Vic Champs - overall, gross, ironman (and I think I also won days 4 and 5). Found something at the range before the un-civil war, and although it didn't help me that round it clicked for days 3-5 where I played some of the best golf I ever have. Show +2 74 at Kingston Heath, then even par 72 at Heritage were certainly highlights.
Also show my first ever bogey-free round - a 5-under 65 (scratch rating 68 ). Getting up-and-down out of the bunker on 18 was satisfying.
Did you play some great courses? Great Vic Champs line-up (PK North & South, Kingston Heath, and I enjoyed Heritage). Brisbane GC, Grange East and West, RQ and of course lucky enough to have Brookwater as my home course.

How did you go? Thanks to a hand injury I went backwards quite quickly at the start of the year, hitting soft cap and staying there for some time. Once the injury started to mend I slowly got some form back and have finished off the year with a string of mostly solid golf.
Did you achieve what you wanted to achieve? Thanks to the injury, that was a big fat 'no'.
Did your golf game go backwards or forwards? Definitely backwards in the first part of the year, but got it going back in the right direction in the latter half.
Are there any outstanding experiences from the year, that you'd like to share? VIC Champs (as always). The highlight was shooting 18 stableford points around PK North and still winning my match. Making the seeded groups (best 8 gross scores) in the Cairns Open was a good learning experience.

Vic Champs and CoC. I was going to add "as always" to the end of that sentence but felt that might seem to diminish just how great those 2 weeks are.
Did you play some great courses?
Yarra Yarra, PK North and South and Kingston Heath.
I really enjoyed the golf at YY. Despite horrible golf I loved the walks around both PK courses (courses like these are why we should look up and out when we play) and while I understand why people might rate KH as highly as they do, I didn't feel the wow.
Special mention to Corinda pitch and putt. 18 holes, average length about 45m. There are old people, young people, parents with kids and beginners etc. No pretence, bring a club and ball and have at it. As long as you don't damage the joint or hold up the group behind, do whatever you want. The "Grow the game" crowd could learn a lot from this place.

Other than my usual goal to enjoy my golf, the main task to tick off for this year is to find a home club when we eventually get this move to Hobart sorted.
Got any golfing holidays planned?
If I'm lucky, CoC. No Vic Champs for me this year.
How did you go? So-so through the year but happy with it all. Changed home courses during the season. Got complete new clubs while changing the courses and had a serious level of health related distractions.
Did you achieve what you wanted to achieve? Not quite as did not get the handicap near where I had wanted but can explain that one due to health but also the course changes were to a course I find tougher.
Did your golf game go backwards or forwards? Not backwards but not a big step forwards due to a course I find tougher, although I do feel it took a small step positive.
Are there any outstanding experiences from the year, that you'd like to share? Got my first ever hole in one playing socially on the 11th at Maitland (witnessed by another social player) in June and followed that up in October with another on the 13th, this one in competition.
There is/was another non-golf one which was finally placing myself first and leaving an extremely toxic workplace that had caused me significant harm (although I realised this way to late)
