Default Popping in to say hi

Here to poke around, the plan is to pick up some newer clubs than I currently own, and get back into semi-regular golf. I had a hit a few weeks ago during an Ambrose and was surprised how well I struck the ball after what must have been 10+ years off. Still can't chip or putt though .... I actually wasn't even sure if the forums were still going.

Since backing away from golf (and OzGolf), we've moved to the NSW Far North Coast (Casino) as was the life plan. Living on the farm, not too many worries in life (we've had a few 'adventures' in the past 12-24 months though - I now have 1 kidney).

I ditched my life in IT (only 20 years too late), I'm now a photographer specialising in sport, and actually earn a few bucks doing it. I'm AFL accredited, usually pick up a BBL game or two (usually for shits'n'giggles), and occasionally contract shoot for News Ltd / Daily Telegraph - we covered the local NRRRL rugby league season which was great fun, including several chats with the Byron Bay captain/coach Todd Carney, Mullumbimby coach Chris Anderson and even Jimmy the Jet here in Goonellabah/Lismore. But shooting rural sports - rodeo particularly is up there with the most fun you can have with a camera. Also shooting portraits and other fun stuff. It's probably the only pasttime that rivals golf for the constant need to spend money on .... anything.

I also create team sports/memorabilia which is getting great traction. It's something that clubs stopped doing, I do them for clubs or carnivals.

My most lucrative gig is coming up though - Santa photos for Lismore Council. They supply everything (site, decorations, staff), I take the bookings, money, and run the photo-side of things. Smashed it out of the park last year and have been invited back to do it again.

You could have at least changed your name to something more modern.

I like to live in the past. Hence why I've taken up playing cricket (and soon golf) again.

I remember Tez went down this path long before me. I'd be more inclined to come to a golf day with a boot full of camera bodies and lenses than golf clubs

Tez takes photos of hot chicks at drag races... you take photos of hot and sweaty rugby players.

I photograph whatever the payer wants photographed

Tomorrow it's more sweaty rugby players (Sevens) in delightful Byron Bay, then it's video'ing plates of inanimate food on Tuesday.

Couldn't you just take photos of inanimate food?

I'm sure, if it was animate food you'd want video as you wouldn't want motion blur in the pics (unless using a high speed).....

The funny thing here is that they have a photographer booked as well, but the person who recommended me to them told them I was a stills guy.

It's a food 'collective' here in the Northern Rivers, so they've got a stack of local produce, personalities, politicians etc. I just need to record video assets including keynote speeches. They haven't even told me what to do with it yet (which basically means I can charge them again down the track to create some content.

    TL;DR - I get paid so I can buy more photography/golf equipment.
