    ...because of his weight?

Hitting driver off the deck is fairly easy.

Not for me. Obviously it depends on your angle of attack and what type of swing you have.

One of my former regular playing partners was a total chopper, but driver off the deck was his specialty. Terrible off the tee, but much better off the deck. We often used to tell him to forget the tee and just always play from the ground.

Not really. This bloke promotes a sweep of the ground and pick it clean, whereas I prefer a poofteenth closed face and a steeper angle of attack, so it can clearly be done both ways.

Clubhead speed is a decent contributor though.

If you hit it well you shouldn’t take a divot.

I think you've got yourself confused, old chap. That's your rule for hitting driver off a tee, isn't it?

    Well, that took a turn.

I thought it was a bit of light-hearted banter.

I've become a fan of driver off the deck - there are a couple of holes at the courses I play where a 230-250 left-to-right runner works well (one where I'll hit 4i off the tee then driver from the fairway).

I do it a bit like Lefty - a steeper angle of attack and using spin to launch the ball. But like Lefty says, you need enough clubhead speed for that. With less speed you'd need to sweep more.

Adam Scott hit one at (I think) the Scottish Open earlier this year, and did it with a high draw off a tight lie. That's black magic IMO.
