The 3, 2 and 4 footers were right to left breakers, so left handed. The 18 inch tap in was righty.

I only putted righty three times, but one was a crucial par save on 9 from 4 feet that broke left to right. I GUARANTEE that wouldn't have hit the hole lefty.

    Thanks Mr Credibility.

What makes you think I’m taking notice of anything you say about a golf score?

A late check-in for the Cairns Open played this past weekend. My first round(s) back after a 9 week lay-off due to having a hernia operation.

92 net 83 followed by 87 net 78. Cairns is currently playing to a par of 70 as our 10th hole is out of play while the green is being re-built and our 'new' temporary 19th hole (par 3) is in play and the par 5, 15th is now played as a par 4.

While I had no expectations, I did have some passages of good golf on Saturday. It was just that when I had a bad hole it was really bad. Made birdie on 15 and followed it with a glorious PBFU quadruple bogey.

Sunday's round started with a 3 putt bogey and that was the theme for the first nine holes. Four 3 putts in 6 holes left me with with no handicap shots after 9 holes. Managed to sort something out on the back nine and played them 1 over handicap, with 3 pars to finish. Hopefully, I can keep that form for the next round but I don't like my chances.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

36 points on Saturday. I had found a flaw in my backswing the previous week, so worked a bit on fixing it through the week and my ball striking was definitely improved, particularly off the tee. Unfortunately finished with a wipe after my worst drive of the day and some crappy luck with the following shots, but overall a much more enjoyable round. 8 fairways, 7 greens and 30 putts with a chip in birdie.

Sunday started out similarly with +3 on the front 9 for 18 points, which also included a chip in birdie. The back 9 was pretty ordinary apart from 3 holes, maybe fatigue I dunno. Just started hitting it off the planet with the driver for some reason until a couple of decent ones on 17 and 18. Only 4 greens but 27 putts. 30 points in the end.

Had my best round in a couple years yesterday which was pleasing. Played solid, mostly chipping and putting but approach game was decent also. Put myself in trouble a couple times off the tee but always seemed to scramble well and eliminated double bogeys which always helps. 38 out, 37 in for 75 +8 at Striling.

Absolute rubbish yesterday with 90/78. Part of it was getting terrible breaks from shots that weren't completely terrible, but I didn't really play that well anyway.

Today was better off the tee and in the approach shot department, shot 82 for 36 points, but I avoided the bad breaks on the bad shots for the most part which helped.

Only playing Sunday next week, they're doing the greens renovations this arvo, tomorrow and Tuesday, and Saturday is Ambrose which I don't like playing, so I'm making a beer instead.

I have been doing some work on my putting over the last couple of weeks which is showing on the course, although it probably won't be much help the next couple of weeks putting on beaches. Happy with the improvement though.

Checking in after my first round in two weeks due to man flu.
The event was a stupid 'modified stableford' where you got 4 for 3 pointers, 6 for 4 pointers, and -1 instead of zero for a wipe. So it most favours high handicaps who rack up 4 pointers on their double bunger holes.
I started with low expectations, and after 3 three-putts in the first five holes, my mood was low as well. But after that I played well and went OK for a score that converts into 36 points.
But the highlight was absolutely a very rare birdie on a shot hole, so I had the great pleasure of announcing '3 a 6'.

Managed to keep the birdies off the card today. Frustrating - plenty of birdie putts, and felt like I putted well, they just didn't drop. Bunch of lip-outs. 2 water balls.

Got the 3 peat of Club Champs last weekend.

Bloody stoked the whole process takes about 6 weeks including 3 finals of 36 hole matchplay.

5 birdies in a row in the final after going 1 down thru 21 (Newcastle's amen corner 4 - 8 ), got the momentum going my way again

    Congrats M_T!!! Excellent effort bud.

3 finals of 36 holes can eat a bag of dicks though. Ridiculous.

Thanks mate, yeah its a battle, I don't mind 36 hole matchplay, it sorts out the blokes who might only have a 1 round special in them!

    Congrats man.
5 birdies is damn well as many birdies as i have gotten across the entire last 18 months, never mind in a row. Awesome stuff.
I cannot even begin to think of 36 hole matchplay on teh same day - I simply have never tried it and are so not fit enough so seriously great stuff

Last Thursday stableford - 34 points around Maitland.
Greens had just been cored on the Monday/Tuesday (delayed due to championships).
2 pickups and a sole 1 point hole, with all else being 2 pointers so kind of consistent.
The pickups were both lost balls off the tee (8th and 14th) and the coring only really impacted 1 putt which just bounced way left, not that I putted well but ok.
****en hit the flag off the tee on the 5th (my 14th) and finished in a bunker to top the day off

Been nothing worth reporting in many months, but I seemed to have turned a corner with form. Last Sunday I won the last round of the Sunday Stableford League with 38pts (including a lost ball wipe), and then yesterday I won the Monthly Medal with 71/66 (temp par of 70 while the 10th is rebuilt). 4 bogies & 3 birdies… 2 of them on the Index 1 & 2 holes. Topped up the prize account nicely!

32 points today with a couple of stupid wipes. Nothing really stood out in my game, nothing was fantastic and nothing was horrible either.
The greens were better to putt on than I expected after being renovated a week ago, so my putting wasn't too bad. A couple of storms probably helped them.

No idea what I was doing, and I can't understand why I bother getting up early on a Sunday to hack it around when I could be at home sleeping.
    Par comp, -5
    11 bogies
    3 birdies
    4 pars.
Can't thank the putter enough for being useless again.
