    Default WDYSTM - March 2024

01/03/2024, Skye Public Golf Course, Solo 9 holes.

    Strokes Gained (SG) vs Scratch.

    Scoring PPbPPXPPP; 35 (+1).

With the exception of two shots (OOB drive on 6, and hooky wedge on 9), that was great. It was a really short course, but to hit 7 greens out of nine, when 7 is usually a target for 18 holes was very nice.

    Default WDYSTM - March 2024

77, 75 in first two rounds of Wynnum Club Champs this past weekend. Sitting in 25th spot, with the top 24 and ties to go through to the second weekend.... Played to handicap, but felt like I left a bunch out there. Couple of flums and bladed bunker shots out of wet sand etc.

    stoney is leading after 66,68.

21 at PK North which was beaten by my 22 at PK South and 30 odd at Moonah Legends.

Played a couple of others which I can’t remember.

It’s been a big month already which I don’t expect will get any better.

Conditions at KP North were brutal. 3PP's 21 must've almost been above the group average?

Having only seen the scores, what was it? Howling gale, quick greens, tough course and massive hangovers?

It was a dsr+3 so low 20s was very possible. Beast of a golf course.

got a late callup to the club champs finals, as one of the guys ahead of me is a pro and has been deemed ineligble. Will prob shoot 80,80 now to finish dead last!

    Moonah Legends:
Don't have a copy of my card from Moonah - think I had 26 points. Didn't strike the ball at all well - hitting weak cuts with irons, blading wedges.

    PK North:
Don't have a copy of my card from PK North either, but luckily it's on miscore (/sarcasm).
    XBbBPBBPB-XBXXBPBPb 23pts
I had a really good range session before this round, but didn't translate to the course in some really tough conditions. The pressure from AndyP's front 9 didn't help either, probably making me push for more at the start of the back with disasterous consequences. Andy will probably post his round at some point, but he had a really impressive (given the conditions) 16 points on the front, with some solid play and some great sand saves. Went down 2&1 in our match. Highlights were my wedge on 3 that spun back to less than a foot (really thought it was going in), and the long, snaking down-hill birdie putt on 18.

    PK South:
    bPPPPPPPB-PPXBBBbPP 77/34pts
Range was closed, but hoped the ball-striking from the previous day's range session would still be there, and it was (for the most part). Good birdie putt to start, then a solid run of pars. Doubling the 275m par 4 12th was a waste - pulled a wedge into a bunker, then either took 2 to get out or 3 putted (don't remember which). That started a string of bogies (all 3 putts I believe, after putting myself in really bad spots on the greens), but came back a bit at the end.

    Kingston Heath:
Started on 7, which confusingly was the 8th hole due to the 15th being out and the 19th being played after the 1st. Another great range session before this.
    bP-PPXPPPbPb-BbXPPPB 74/37pts
This was a really good round, despite the two doubles (first one was a bad tee shot into the tea trees, second was some fun in a very firm bunker). Joe dropped a bomb for birdie on the first hole, so I was relieved to also make my birdie putt. That run in the middle was fun, including a 4-point birdie on the #1 index 16th.

    Heritage St John:
Tired, but no pressure at this point. Missed a few short-ish putts, but really shouldn't be complaining with an even-par round at a fairly tough course (including 2 lost balls on the front 9).
    PXPbPPPPP-bPBBPbbPP 72/38pts

35 points yesterday. Nice to get back to some sort of form again after a lot of rubbish lately. Still managed some rubbish with 3 wipes. Back again today and then off to Laidley next week for another crack at that tournament.

29 Points today at Alice Springs.

Lost the ability to putt on the back. On the plus side, I drove well! Just too many double Bogeys.

33 points today. Driving wasn't quite as good but I putted well. Hit 3 crap shots on 18 then holed it from a greenside bunker for par for the obligatory "that'll get you back next week" finish. Got an NTP as well.

02/03/2024, Moonah Links Legends, White Tees (Scr 72 Sl 137 Par 72), OZgolf Vic Champs Warmup.

    Strokes Gained (SG) vs Scratch.

    Scoring PXPBBPBBP PPbBXBPPP; 43-38-81 (+6:+3:+9); stab 33pts.

This round is too long ago in golf terms to remember details. Bigger greens means more greens hit, but more putts.

I did manage the OZgolf long drive on 12, which I converted to a birdie, and got the birdie money for too. Big money hole!

    Default WDYSTM - March 2024

03/03/2024, Peninsula Kingswood CGC North, White Tees (Scr 72+3 Sl 134 Par 72), OZgolf Uncivil War.

I put Arccos away for the rest of the weekend because it can become a distraction from the golf. The Garmin watch kept the basic stats.

    7/13 fairways; 6/18 greens; 31 putts.
    Scoring BXPbPBPPB BPXXXBBPP; 42-46-88 (+6:+10:+16); stab 28pts.
    Played to 9.3. GA Handicap 5.5 (-0.0).

Uncivil War Match vs BYU: Win 2 and 1.

BYU was giving me three shots, which I was to receive on 1, 2, and 18. After being 1 down through 3 meant that we were basically playing a scratch match for the rest of the round unless I could get it to the 18th. Maybe this changed my mindset, as I played well for the rest of the front nine, although needed some good bunker shots to keep the run going. I managed to get 4 up before there was maybe another mindset change to defend a lead (who knows what I was subconsciously doing) and I lost my swing and let BYU back in. Just held it together to get the win though.

One of the highlights of the round was getting up and down from the deeeeeeeep bunker on 7, where it was shortsided and the flag was above head level.

4/03/2024, Peninsula Kingswood CGC South, White Tees (Scr 72 Sl 134 Par 72), OZgolf Vic Champs Rd 1.

    7/13 fairways; 6/18 greens; 31 putts.
    Scoring XBBBXPPBb XBXBPBBbb ; 43-43-86 (+7:+7:+14); stab 28pts.
    Played to 11.8. GA Handicap 5.5 (-0.0).

Unlike the day before where I played well on the North course but had a bad patch, on the South course, I played bad, but had three birdies (only three pars) to keep the scorecard tidy and returned the same stableford score as the day before. Birdie on 9 for 4 points, birdie on 17 for three, and rolled in a 35m+ putt on the last for another four points. Big running kakaaa needed for that. Struggles the rest of the round.

5/03/2024, Kingston Heath, White Tees (Scr 72 Sl 129 Par 72), OZgolf Vic Champs Rd 2.

    8/15 fairways; 9/18 greens; 31 putts.
    Scoring (1,19,2-8,9-14,16-18) XBPPbBBPB PPBbPBBPP; 40-39-79 (+5:+2:+7); stab 15-20-35pts
    Played to 6.1. GA Handicap 5.4 (-0.1)

Very solid. I really liked the pace of the greens. I'll take a sub-80 around that place any day.

    Vic Champs Total

28-35-63pts. Good enough to finish 3rd, without getting in the daily top 3s.

Not surprisingly, I struggled for consistency at the end of the trip. There were some pretty bad shots in there.

I averaged over 30pts for the five Vic Champs rounds, so that was a win.

First round back after major hernia surgery in Feb. Aimed for 19 points off my daily of 6, having not completed a swing before standing on the first tee

Birdied the first, wiped 2 of the next 3, then came home pretty well for 31 points.

Pretty stoked that I finished the round, and actually scored ok.

88/80 in the first round of the Laidley classic today. I hit some nice shots but put myself in some crappy positions too often. The 3 putting on a couple of holes didn't help either.
Probably won't do enough to threaten anything tomorrow so I'll probably just use it to try to work on the swing a bit.

Kelsey, I'm not sure I want to go back and face those shitty greens tomorrow. It has certainly made me consider not doing this event again next year.

Mooroopna Classic yesterday. Drove up late Friday night and slept in the car park. Up at 6.15 to get dressed for a big day. The classic is 36 holes and it was going to be 30d. Tee off at 7.40, enough time for breakfast, a few putts and some range balls. Was going pretty well until I tripled a par 3, just a bad tee shot that lead to a bad buyer shot.
    Round 1 - 79/75.
No break as our first round was 5 hrs. Grabbed a new card and back onto the 1st. Was playing steady and trying g to keep up the fluids. The other 3 in the group hadn't played 36 hole events so were starting to feel it.
Kept it together pretty well for 78/74.
Finished 12th in gross and won the nett for the day.
