    Default WDYSTM - December 2023

I'll start off this month with a serviceable 32 points. Didn't really do anything great, didn't really do anything terrible either, just one of those grind it out rounds. Given how I was playing I'm not disappointed with it, could have gone off the rails and had something in the 20s if I'd let it get to me more.

Enough to drop a bit to 8.8 too, so 0.8 left to get below my current lowest.

    Dirty 30 for me.
Played with an 80 year old bloke who aced the 2nd hole. His first 3 holes went 7 1 8.

Disappointing 29 points today. I was going alright after 9 at +3 for 18 points then everything went to shit for 6 holes that netted 4 points before some better play on the final 3.

    Love it!

Dirty 30 for me too. Really wasn't feeling it in the soupy conditions Sat morning. 5 points through 5 holes. Getting back to 30 was ok I guess. I was probably due to have a bad round, as my last few rounds have beaten the hcap.

Highlight of the round was a sensational lob shot over the fence between the 5th green and 6th tee for an all world 5 for a point. This was after airmailing the green and fence from a wet lie in the front bunker. Never give up!

30pts for me too today. Driver is killing me, I'm spraying it at a course that you simply can't afford to spray it on. Irons & wedges are good, and putting is reasonable.

Quick 9 around Minnippi before work this morning, 6.10am tee time. Started with a double, but hit it pretty well after that to finish 3 over.

I had my first hit in almost 6 weeks on Sunday. Expectations were low but ended up shooting 37pts with a wipe.

Saturday MM 87/83. 34mm of rain fell for the day.
Sunday : -3 in par. Chipping was difficult, greens slow and cups overgrowing.
    Tuesday : 37 points.

    Default WDYSTM - December 2023

Got my second game in for the year finally.
Annual S.A.OzGolf Xmas Mug at Kenton Valley Super Par 3.
3/4 of the game was played in light rain but I enjoyed getting in a hit and catching up with mates.
Took the odd number 1999 Hogan Apex’s bought on here recently for the game. These are “wow” really good to hit. Struck it very well all game much to my surprise due not playing. Putted well enough to cash in on the good ball striking.
Took home the Xmas Mug to be the first 3 time winner.

Well done. Was always a great day out.

I had an ordinary 29 points today - just leaking shots off the tee. Drives you'd get away with at a lot of courses, but killing me at Brookwater. Was 7 over handicap, and can attribute at least 7 dropped shots to bad tee shots. I need to tighten that up, my irons are really good, pitching/chipping is good, putting is serviceable if a bit yippy.

31 points yesterday, felt like I played worse than that although most of the bad was due to bad drives.

35 points today, played well on the front going around in +1 for 20 points, but a few loose shots and forgetting how to hit wedges properly from 90-100 out for a few holes ruined a couple of chances to set up birdie putts. I did hit much better drives though, the only one I really sprayed was on the first tee.

Not too often I win anything but if your going to win a comp the best one to win is ham day. 38 points with an eagle on our ninth hole was good for div 1.

    Finally broke 80 again.

41 points off 10, with 3 birdies in the last 5 holes. 26putts also helps.

chopped my way around for 83/74 on Saturday in the monthly medal. Had a wedding the night before, then a midnight school camp pickup. Proved to myself that I can't function without sleep at my age.

    Anyhoo, onwards and upwards.

First Saturday of the month Bushy and I (as RightyHoges) played together in the Members Day Christmas 4B.

    Combined really well, no 1 pointers or wipes, just 8 x 2-pointers and 10 x 3-pointers, so 46 overall.

    7th.

    In the morning field.

    6 shots back.

What are you doing off 10?

Same as me, I guess. I can only shoot 38 points off my 10 handicap, and I'm very happy with that. I didn't strike the ball like a 10 h'cap, but I did quite a few good things around the greens, including 3 of 3 sandsaves.

It was Ham Day, and I'm hoping I don't win a ham. What am I going to do with a ham? Donate it, probably, if I even bother to collect it.

    Nice one.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

Doubled the last for 78 off the stick and 39 points.

Had 32 putts, hit so many greens and 2 putted everything.

5 bogies, a birdie and a double. The rest boring pars.

Yesterday got ruined by storms, today got somewhat ruined by heat and humidity. Scrambled around for 31 points, a fair few bad shots because either the club slipped in my hands a bit due to sweat, or I was worried about that happening. When the wind finally decided to make an appearance during the 14th I played better, making par on the rest bar 17 after a crappy chip.

It's almost easier to keep the hands and grips dry when it's bloody raining. 🥴

    35 points at Oxley today.

Started badly, sliced drive, hit a tree with the second, punched up to the green and chipped in for par. Then promptly hit two into the bundu off the tee on the next and wiped it. Made a couple of pars after figuring out how to hit the driver relatively straight again, then bogeyed in to turn at 14 points.

Back 9 was a lot better helped by draining some long putts, went around in +3 for 21 points with another chip in on 17, this time for birdie. Hopefully the weather isn't too crappy for tomorrow...

Broke my handicap for the first time in 12 months today. 37 in glorious conditions of f*ing 12. 40 winning the day was bloody criminal.

46 points won it at my club today. Well, for D grade anyway. 44 won A grade.

Had an absolutely bad 24 points on Friday.
Front 9 saw me rack up 8 points with 4 wipes and all ups was 4 x triples, 3 x doubles, 1 x bogey and a sole solitary par.
Back nine score was better but game did not really feel it and saw 16 pojnts with 4 x doubles and 5 bogeys.
Only hit 1 irons hot of greater than 40 metres from the middle all day (sole 8 iron out of trees on 13) although did manage to hit the hybrid from the centre twice, with 2 more fairway woods from teh centre of the club. Driver was absent until 15 and saw me nail it on 15, 16 and 18 but was just horrid.
Was one of those rounds that really, the dam on the course looked a good place to store the clubs and really has be asking the age old question of WTF do this to myself

28 points (87 off the stick) at Stirling yesterday. First comp back since joining as a summer member. Looking forward to playing more regularly over the next few months. I took a hiatus over the last 18 months to battle some swing issues but slowly making progress - largely due to setting up a practice area in my backyard and hitting 1000 balls a week.
