I've placed all the bins in a 'circle the wagons' formation outside my front door. It worked last year, so we'll see.

    All quiet so far.

If the porch light is on, send your child to the complete stranger's house,

If the porch light is off, don't get upset when I tell your kids to **** off!!

I'm a pretty easy going cat. I try to be a nice bloke, help out people when and whenever possible.

But I f##ken hate Halloween. It's the only day of the year I turn into a curmudgeon.

Just a Lolly grab as far as I'm concerned.

I think the locals have finally realised that our place it is not Halloween friendly, no knocks at the door last night.

We've been the ones who got it going in our Neighbourhood, doing a letterbox drop a few weeks before and asking peeps to make it obvious if you're participating, and if a house has nothing up to then leave them alone. First couple of years was pretty big, the next few have petered down to a pretty ordinary turnout last year so I told clikchic that someone else and sort things out this year. No one did. One of the parents knocked on our door and asked if "we're" doing halloween this year!

I was instructed to get some lollies for any that did come knocking, clikchic did put some deco's out - we were the only house in the entire place with any. And not a single kid came past. That means 4 bags of freddo's for us - so it was a big win.

Only a couple of visits this year. The activity has dropped off in our street in recent years as the kids grow up and leave the nest. They have usually been supervised visits in our street, and the kids terrific and into it. We usually have some Cadbury snacks on hand, that the Mrs likes to finish off the leftovers in the following days. Lots of activity in the local CBD with organised entertainment etc. I equate it to Cracker Night when we we kids. Let them have some harmless fun and perhaps learn some social skills.

I don't get it. We spend 364 days of the year teaching our kids not to talk or take lollies from strangers yet on halloween some think its ok.

There's some irony there, but kids are smart enough to know the difference. Besides, I don't teach my kid not to talk to strangers.

And it is a supervised visit with a parent present.

There’s a big difference between talking someone when you knock on there door for a predetermined event and a stranger approaching your child in the street. Do you teach your kids not to talk to shop employees if they are at the grocery store?

My boys don't talk to anyone, they're basically teenagers.

Times have changed. I used to think it would have been safe to leave my son with Kevin Spacey, but not anymore.
