    Default WDYSTM September 2023

Played the Black marker challenge at Oxley yesterday. 89 gross for 75 nett. My golf wasn't as bas as it sounds. Two triples and 4 doubles, mostly from poor chipping and putting. Couple of shanks too. Bladed a chip OOB on 16 for instance. Parred 3 of the last 4. Won the NTP on the 3rd hole which was playing 185ish to the back left corner. Just hit a lovely 3 iron high in there which pulled 127cm from the pin.

Hadn't played Oxley in 10+ years, but gee I liked it. It's a "big" course with lots of room and big greens. And the clubhouse is sensational.

Thanks for the heads up for the third. I find it plays easier off the blacks with the pin at the back. More room for run out. Here for the monthly medal today, given my recent struggles I'm aiming to just get somewhere close to my handicap.

MM today, sun was out and the grass had that freshly mown look about it. After a bit of a swing correction during the week, I was hitting it well and making putts.
    73-67
    5 bogies
    3 birdies
    29 putts
    Winner for MM and putting.

Well I ended up 4 under handicap today so that was pretty pleasing. It has expectedly blown out a bit lately, off 13 today and shot 80/67. Driver was better than it has been, hitting 7 fairways, only hit 4 greens but chipping and putting were decent. I'm not sure how my app calculates up and downs but apparently I made 77%. Best of them was a 15m or so flop over a bunker to about 2 feet to save par. I've been working on those shots in practice but haven't really needed them in play yet, was nice to execute it well. 27 putts.

Well I can't compete with those shooting near par but ...........

100 (par 71) playing from 22 (dropped from 31 in the 7 games since getting the handicap in April).
    50 on both nines.
    2 pars (1 each nine)
    5 bogeys
    9 doubles
    2 triples

Greens had been cored this week so my putt count was way to high (41) and that does not include the texas wedges (6) because I just had no confidence in chipping.
Seriously inconsistent ball striking but overall, while it was 100 gross man, it seriously felt and still feels far far worse so I am actually kind of happy.
No lost balls, only one out of bounds (18 inches out ffs)

Did you take your hat off, raise the putter and acknowledge the crowd when the last putt went in?

Given 1 of those pars was 18 (1 x texas across the fringe from 30 or so feet with a finished up 12 inch tap in) so I did celebrate it a bit but being in front of the club I absolutely made it seem like it was a normal result and gave nothing away about the other 17 so-and-so holes.

We have a member who always gives a wave on the first tee before he hits, and always waves back down the final hole fairway when he finishes. His way of acknowledging the golf gods. When he makes a birdie he celebrates by patting the green.

02/09/2023, Maleny GC, Stone Tees (Scr 68 Sl 120 Par 69), Stableford.

    Strokes Gained (SG) vs Scratch

    Scoring PbXPBPPBB PBPBBBbPP; 39-37-76 (+4:+3:+7); stab 18-18-36pts.
    Played to 7.5. Golflink 8.2 (-0.2).

I made the trip up to Maleny on Saturday and did a 5k parkrun at 7am, before backing up for a round of golf just after 9p. The warmup felt horrible, but fortunately I didn't feel too impacted on the course, albeit very fatigued by the end.

I started with par/bird for seven points and finished with bird/par/par for nine points. The rest was a grind. I played smart early to avoid losing my ball in the long grass when the holes were tight, and only used the driver where appropriate. I got up and down a heap of times, which was countered a bit by the three putts for a few greens in regulation.

It was nice to play to the handicap considering.

30 points at The National - Gunamatta course.
Torrential rain and 50kmh winds made it so much fun

Really enjoyed the course and layout

03/09/2023, Brisbane GC (Chelmer Course), Blue Tees (Scr 71 Sl 126 Par 71), Yeerongpilly Cup, Stroke.

    Strokes Gained (SG) vs Scratch

Scoring (Start on 8th) Xb BXPBPBPP bBXPBPB; 41-42-83 (+5:+7:+12).
    Played to 10.8. Golflink 8.2 (-0.0).

Last Sunday, I backed up from the Saturday round, lots of running and too many beers to play at Brisbane GC. The tiredness showed by making a poor decision with the first shot and dunking one in a hazard with driver, when that club should have stayed in the bag. The rest of the day was up and down with lots of nice shots, and several shockers. Putting was great on the true greens, and I read them better than last year. Not a great score, but an improvement on last year in the same tournament.

35 points at Wynnum today. First round with new irons. Some good golf, but still managed to make 4-5 double bogeys. Even managed a bladed bunker shot oob on the 14th. That's becoming my signature shot lately!

34 points at Sandy this morning. Pretty bloody good considering I only had 13 on the front nine. Started the back with 4 straight birdies. Made all the bad shit go away.

Nice! I've added that shot to my bag lately too. It's a double whammy, because it is leaving slices in the ball.

Bloody completely forgot about the Yeerongpilly cup, not that it mattered given my handicap blowout I probably couldn't have entered anyway.

Today's round was a best ball so nothing to really report. Didn't play well anyway, although I might have finally worked out how to hit a driver straight again.

The field was so small, I think you might've been able to. Add a reminder for next year, because $70 is good value to play a restricted course with lunch thrown in.

Indeed it is. When do entries usually open?

First round of the Social Clubs Club Champs, and probably the first real test since the tennis elbow. I played the Month Medal last week and it was not good, the game was just not ready, so had to do some work in the net during the week.

    Riverlakes GC - 78/67
Started Par, Bogey, Triple, Par, Par, Triple, then shot +1 over the next 13 hole with 10 Pars, 2 Bogeys at 8 and 16, and holed out from the green side bunker on 18 for a Birdie.

Not a lot of GIR, but scrambled very well and short game was pretty solid.
The greens were not good to putt on, and very inconsistent with 2 or 3 different types of grass growing on the greens.
