Oxley yesterday. Got my swing somewhat back to where I want it, I wasn't hitting it as accurate as I can, but I wasn't missing by a lot most of the time either and the strike itself was pretty good. Chipping was a bit better, still getting used to the new wedges, and putted well. Ended up with 34 points and a birdie on the last (also made one on 7).

Today I was at carbrook with the social club and I played terrible. I mainly put it down to it being so bloody early in the morning, I can't get to sleep early enough the night before for those sorts of starts when it's a distance away. Concentration suffers and I play like garbage. Not too worried about it, back to the usual late morning tee off on Wednesday.

Played Saturday and Sunday. 36 holes with the same ball was a pleasant surprise.

Saturday was par, played solid, but two dumb 3 putts for squares hurt, so minus 2 was the result. Hit it well, just didnt put anything close for birdie, and holed one putt over 3 foot for the round.

Sunday was off the white, so 3 shots less handicap to play with. Again, struggled to make any putts over 3 foot, but 12 pars, 6 bogies was 36 points and my first round in in the 70s since May. The course is starting to dry out now, and the air is warmer, scoring will improve if I can work out how to putt again.

Two flags, still on soft anchor, but things are looking up.

Saturday was 11 shots better than the week before.

I don’t know why these things happen.

I don't know if it is just me but I have been struggling with how fast the greens are at Carbrook ATM.

I struggled with them yesterday early because they were slow with the dew. Once they sped up it was fine as I'm used to reasonably fast greens.

31 points yesterday at Oxley. Front 9 wasn't fantastic, which has been a pattern lately. Might go hit some range balls before the round on Saturday and see if that helps get my swing going earlier than 9 holes into the round.

Anyway, 19 points on the back 9 was nice after I finally started hitting some fairways, and getting some good breaks when I missed for once. Loving my new wedges, hit some decent approaches with them, getting more used to them now and I feel like I have much more control over the club and the ball. Even managed to get one to zip back a little.

May just be starting to come out the other side of the recent form slump.

Round 2 on the Captains course of the Tocumwal Open. 83/75, putter was on ice overnight and took too long to warm up. Drove it well, long irons had a sloppy fade.

35 points yesterday in the blustery wind, which was nice for a change as I usually play rubbish in the wind, although I do enjoy the challenge of manufacturing shots to contend with it. I figured I wouldn't be all that accurate with the longer shots, so the short game needed to be good which it mostly was. Somehow avoided going in any bunkers. The greens were a fair bit quicker than Wednesday, I had 27 putts over 17 holes (one pickup) which included a couple of silly 3 putts.
    Enjoyed the day overall.

Results from Tocumwal Open, I finished t9 in handicap. Pretty happy with that. New driver shaft kept it on the fairway, need to work on my long iron approach shots.

Well done. Does your club now have a matchplay event for the top 16 in each grade from the Club Champs?

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

    Cheers.

Matchplay is only for the top 8 gross (read A grade).

It’s the first time they’ve done it and may expand it to the other grades next year.

19/08/2023, Wolston Park GC, Gold Tees (Scr 66 Sl 119 Par 67), 4BBB Stab Medal Event plus Individual.

    Strokes Gained (SG) vs Scratch

    Scoring XPBbXBXPP PPBPPXPPB; 42-36-78 (+7:+4:+11); stab 14-18-32pts.
    Played to 11.4. Golflink 8.1 (+0.1).

Started badly in golf and temperament. A couple of deep breaths on 8 after the one thing going well turned bad and things settled to end up with a respectable score.

Too many shocker shots to be scoring well at the moment.

    33 points around Yarrawonga

    24 putts on front 9 wasn't ideal

33 points yesterday. Actually hit the ball ok for once, apart from the four holes I wiped.

27 points today. Everything was off except putting. Didn't get enough rest last night so I'm not too worried about it. I usually play crap when that happens.

Mount Compass OzGolf Social Hit Sunday.

Second hit for the year on course that has a Cookie Monster (Yum Yums) that eats golf balls the expectations weren’t high.
Drive on the perfect line over the Yum Yums on the corner of the first left 65m to a far back pin. Rolled the putt in for birdie just off the back edge for a day that couldn’t get better from there.
Strung a few more pars together then the poor swing came out on the 5th.
Bogey, bogey, double. Driver was on song early then it was lost from 8 until 16.
    Yum Yums 3
    Birdies 1

36 points on saturday - first time since Nov 22 playing to my handicap..
15 front 21 back, this included 5 three putts (4 on the front)

Playing partner had the worst round for a 3 marker I have ever seen and included an attempted driver off the deck that resulted in the ball being driven 3 inches straight into the ground, took some effort to get out.

29 points on Saturday, with a 3 putt on the last. Still pretty lost around the greens, but am hitting the full shots a bit better.

Had to replace my putter grip, so I tried one of the big fat ones (Scotty Cameron Studio Design Matador Red oversize) that all the cool kids seem to be using nowadays. That's gonna take some getting used to!

Is it a different weight to the old one? If so it will mess with the putter balance.

    Default WDYSTM - August 2023

27/08/2023, Brisbane River GC, Blue Tees (Scr 65 Sl 116 Par 66), Stableford.

    Strokes Gained (SG) vs Scratch

    Scoring BBPPXPPBB bBBPBBPBB; 39-39-78 (+7:+5:+12); stab 16-16-32pts.
    Played to 11.7. Golflink 8.2 (+0.1).

I'm scoring better than how I feel I am playing. Driver is very erratic at the moment, and there were a few three putts due to the slow inconsistent greens. The one blowout hole was thanks to a hardpan bunker. The chipping was strong though, and using the 4W off the tee was pretty successful considering that I just put it in the bag.
