    Smile Warracknabeal Golf Course

Recently on a trip away, had a game at Warracknabeal. Course was in great shape. The greens were in good condition after recent renovations, even though I had my worst score for a long long while the company was great. The game was super cheap with sandwiches and sweets after the game .

Have you played here, LeftyHoges? Probably a bit too far out of your old home area for it to be likely.

No, never got the chance myself, unfortunately.

It's a running joke in my family that when my brother went to play it as a youngster he got out of the car, looked around and exclaimed "Geez, these fairways are wide".

They saw nothing but his big size 14 shoes wandering through the trees all damn day!!!

Have driven past it and thought it's definitely one I'd have liked to have played.

It's quite ordinary actually, nothing missed if you haven't been there.

Not very close to Warracknabeal though. I assume that you are thinking of Warrnambool, where greats are born.

I could not point to Warracknabeal on a map, and I have been through a fair bit of Victoria

If you were a degenerate punter you would know where it is, has a racecourse.

If you're in the area you're playing Horsham 258 times before you play Warracknabeal, simple as that.

100% this, It was devastating when fire went through Horsham but the new track is still awesome

I'll still ALWAYS prefer the old layout with all the gum-tree lined enclosed holes, but it's still ripping.

Quite possibly the purest greens I've encountered outside the Sandbelt.

The fire did the course a huge favour by wiping out most of the shitty pine trees that were smothering holes and impacting on the excellent design and turf quality. There are still a lot of trees around the tees which should also come out. Sadly they have gone overboard with replanting crappy stuff again in an attempt to recapture the old look.

The pine trees could **** off and die in a fire, sure (wow, it actually came true!), but the gums are what made the place. Specific hole routing weaving through the trees was a glorious hallmark of that place.
