My mate lives nearby and we’ve planned a game next time I’m on the coast. We’ve been trying since before Covid, hopefully soon.

Bogeys on two of the first three (a failed up and down and my compulsory 3-jiggle), I was close to giving the round up before hitting 4-wood on 4 to roughly 10 feet and binning the putt for eagle. From there I had some semblance of actual ball control for the first time in a long time.

Regulation pars through 7 before hitting it to 105cm on 8 (and still can't post in the NTP thread, grrr!!) for birdie, and on in two for a two-putt birdie on 9 to turn 2 red.

3 reg pars, followed by a binned 30-footer for bird on 13 to get to -3.

3 yards too many of draw on 14 and into the greenside trap, couldn't quite get up and down as an 8-footer slid across the front of the hole for bogey. A similar putt on 15 for birdie missed, again just sliding under the hole. Reg par, then a holed 4 footer for par on 17 which I'd normally miss meant it was to be my day. A nice 54° wedge to another 8 feet gave me the chance at the coveted 69 (tee hee), but alas it was not to be as another one slid under the hole. Tap in for 70, and a GIR stat line I haven't seen in a long time...

    1 eagle
    3 birdies
    11 pars
    3 bogeys

And yet I still feel I should have done better. 5 putts missed inside 10 feet feels a bit of a missed opportunity, and the 3-stab still stings. But it's nice to know this old timer can still wind the clock back a little. Really looking forward to the 85 next round to regain equilibrium though.

    Ah, hello old friend...

You need to be kinder on your putting, it’s 50% make from 10ft at best for most non elite Am’s.

You should focus on 6ft and in and those 69’s should cum pouring in

Was in St Andrews last week as part of my work with a veterans charity and had some decent golf considering the temperature. The solid daytime temps were 7-10* but no rain which was a positive. Lots of blue skies from Tuesday to Friday.

Played some decent golf for the most part and added a couple of new tracks which was a treat.

The story behind this place is a bit incredible, private course developed in the early 1900’s by a wealthy businessman on his estate- Tarvit Mansion. Fell into disrepair and the course was lost around WW2. Was rediscovered and is now part of the National Trust.

    Old Course 75 (+3)

Played close to my best but some sloppy 3putts on the back 9 cost me. Ballstriking was off the charts though which was awesome, just 3 putted 13, 15, 16 in the end. Left a birdie putt in the jaws half a roll short on 18 in front of a crowd of tourists for some courteous applause. Beers in the Dunvegan after made me feel better.

    Jubilee

Not much to say really, ballstriking was the same if not better, less wind but I putted much better and didn’t have a single 3putt. I really like the Jubilee, if it were anywhere else in the world it would be talked about completely different.

Craighead Links (Crail) we played Ambrose and finished -6

First time playing it, was cold as anything I had ever played. Wind chill was in the minus and the sun didn’t come out until the 16th green. Even still this Gil Hanse design (his first original) was incredible with interesting holes but amazing green complexes. Dinner in the clubhouse was a blast

UNBELIEVABLE!!! What a place this is. Only 3 years old but an absolutely beautiful, gorgeous, incredible place. Golf was really good this day. Played the front in a few under par playing a bit of a cross wind which is opposite the prevailing winds. Made the turn, then the wind really blew into the strongest of the week which resulted in bogies on 5 of the next 6 holes before parring in. Had dinner here too before heading back to town for sunset photos on the Swilcan bridge.

I have to make the 10 footers, otherwise they become 2 footers that I don't make.

That’s rough, Ramming speed would then be the go and leave yourself a comfortable 6 footer coming back 🫶

Brookwater off the blacks today for a medal round - plays hard at 6500m, par 72, scratch 75, slope 146. Started with a terrible range session, and struggled off the tee but solid irons kept me going. My 3rd shot plugging deep (could barely see it) in the face of a greenside bunker on 17 cost me a better score, but still pretty happy. Just the one silly 3-putt on 9.

Need to sort my driver out before RA on Monday, but I'm flying in early so I'll have time on the range.

38 points today off the blues. Front 9 was consistent, hitting 7/9 greens and making the turn at +1 for 20 points. A silly duffed chip on 5 and 3 putt on 6 resulted in bogeys but made a birdie on 7. Back 9 was a bit scrappy but only wiped 15 after a terrible drive. Good enough to win A grade and knock 0.6 off the handicap.

    Default WDYSTM - April 2023

29/04/2023, Brisbane River GC, Blue Tees (Scr 65 Sl 116 Par 66), Stableford.

    Strokes Gained (SG) vs Scratch

    Scoring: XPPPBPBPX bPBBBPPPP; 38:36:74 (+6:+2:+8) stab 15:19:34.
    Played to 8.8. Golflink 7.4 (+0.6).

Didn't get ready early enough for the round this morning and had a rushed warmup, leading to a topped first tee shot into the water. The rest of the day was good ball striking and I'm really liking hitting more greens. I've got some good rhythm going with the swing. An added bonus was three pitches for zero shanks. Yeehaa!

Unfortunately, one putts were very hard to come by on this course's greens. They are slopey and grainy, which isn't great for someone that tends to have the ball die at the cup; I just couldn't get myself to hit it that little bit harder to take that late break out. Several birdies and up and down chances gone as a result. -2.2 Strokes gained on 0-3m putts. Urggh!

Still, a good round and hopefully I can take this form on the road for the Adelaide and Perth golf.

    Default WDYSTM - April 2023

First round at Cairns in what seemed like months. After banging out a 10k run beforehand it took me a bit to get going.

Easily doubled the 1st, started to come good on 5, thinned it to 5ft on 6 and missed the putt, hit it to 12-15ft in two on the 9th for an easy 2putt birdie.

Pint of Cairns-100th-Anniversary beer at half way was nice.

Chopped it for bogey on ten before barely missing birdies on 11 and 12 before a crowd pleasing triple on 13. Two putt pars the rest of the way in for 32pts.

Was a really fun day out looking forward to tomorrow now.

Felt like I played a lot worse than 33 points today, fighting left pulls most of the round. One pickup wipe. I guess the short game made up for it, making 80% up and downs (some for bogeys, the app doesn't discriminate 🤣), with 25 putts over the 17 completed holes. 6 fairways and greens and dropped another 0.1 shots. Hopefully hit it a bit straighter tomorrow.

Club handicap matchplay against a 20 marker so I had to give 15 shots.
He made 7 pars and what would have been one wipe in 16 holes. I didn't make 7 birdies to square him.
After 16, I was on track for 32ish, he was on track for 38ish. 3 and 2 was the result.

First time I recall being knocked out in round 1, having made the final 4 the last two years.

Second last round of pennants today against Elsternwick. We needed atleast a half to keep in the hunt, but went down 3 1/2 - 5 1/2. I had a great day myself as I had to give 5 shots to a player that was 4-0 this season. 1 up after the first and never surrendered the lead, eventually winning 3&1. I was solid all day, winning on the 17th green and 4 over off the stick. The only bad hole was a bad 5 wood that went out of bounds, otherwise I was playing ham and mayo all day. Birdie putt from 30 feet on 11 sunk his heart for a win. He only 1 one of the shot holes in pars and eventually conceeded the 17th which is a par 3 165m, after I led off and stuck it pin hi to 12 feet, while he followed with a pull that was left of the left bunker, stuck it past the green and was 15 feet after his 3rd.
We play Brighton next week to avoid relegation, at the same course.

Hit my irons like a boss all damn day.

Lots of birdie opportunities but was slightly off with my speed still since coming back from os.

Pretty underwhelming 27 yesterday. My putting apparently decided to take a holiday as well, with a couple of stupid 3 putt bogeys. A lot of burned edges as well so I suppose I was still mostly hitting good putts just no luck.
    Oh well, onto this weekend.

Bit of a choke at Royal Adelaide yesterday - 0 up & downs hurting (and 3-putting the 8th after missing the green), along with poor iron shots on 16 & 17 - which was frustrating, having hit my irons really well up to that point.
