    Default WDYSTM - February 2023

Starting the thread two months in a row.

In keeping with my "new years resolution" to only post good/interesting rounds, I didn't think I'd be posting this one - poor short game & putting had me heading towards another low 30's stableford score, but I found something on the back 9 to make it a bit more respectable.

    BPBPPBPPP-PPPBbPbbP 71/35pts

Promising early signs for a "new" (for me) driver shaft, and played a vice pro plus ball for the first time and loved them.

85/76 - 37 putts, nothing over 3 foot holed for the day again.

The slow and heavily watered greens are killing me. Get me to firm and fast Melbourne please!

    Monthly Medal.
Started with a 3 putt and thought here we go again.
Made a short birdie on 6, then a 40 foot bomb on 7 to get even as the wind started to pick up dramatically.

Unfortunately made a dumb mistake on 13 for bogey, a full horseshoe on 14 for bogey, and was 4 inches away from a tap in birdie on 16.... But it hit the top of the face of the bunker and trickled into the trap short sided.

Anyway, 36/42 for 78/70, runner up A Grade and equal lowest gross for the day.

Down to 6.1, and A Reserve Pennant debut tomorrow

Absolute rubbish today in the first round of club championships, 94/84. Wasn't helped by annoying persistent rain that just decided it'd be a great time to turn up halfway through the first hole. The rain did eventually piss off several holes later but I never really recovered from the poor start, just out of sorts all day.

So this was an interesting back 9 in the medal today.

Finally put together a half decent round today with the social club at Wynnum with an 81. There were a few stupid errors including a 4 putt on one hole, but overall it wasn't too bad. Began both nines with a birdie but no others unfortunately. I played off my proper handicap of 8 for my own records, they still have me off 16 so proper nett 73/65 for them.
7 fairways, 8 greens, 33 putts. Avg drive down a bit at 239m, longest 260.

Played at The Grange this morning with Padstow Bowling club social club. Won my way to the next round of the Matchplay. 3 up 3 to play and ended up winning one up. Shorts game sucks. Some average consistency with the rest of the game.

Sanctuary Cove Cup at The Pines yesterday. Started on the 11th, so I'll report scores from there:

    PBBBBPBXP-bbPBBBXPB 83/79

Greens were lightning fast, some tough pins. I thought I played pretty well, although wasted shots on approaches and around the greens and struggled to get off the bogey train. The round got a PCC of +3, with only 1 score under par (a 70) in a field of ~100 golfers (highest male handicap was 4). My 83 ended up as a flag round

    Course was fantastic though.

Ha! I was never any chance of getting in then, even if my form didn't fall in a heap.

    Monthly Medal.

Almost started in disaster with a plugged ball in the fairway on 1 which we couldn’t find for 2:55.

Was a low stress round, bogeys all came from not getting up and down and I missed 6-7 legitimate birdie opportunities.

All is headed in the right direction.

You might sneak in to Southport this weekend if they don't have a full field yet?

I have seen it before. I think it is where you have got “up and down” with a single putt, but not for par. Doesn’t take into account the double chip.

I reckon it’s from 14, I hooked the out of a 5w, left the second short and the made a good putt to save the bogey.

GA of 7.0 needed. I've blown mine out to 8.1 for the Vic Champs now.

Other than not playing another 18 or 36 for free at CW I reckon it was worth every cent.
