Whittlesea was nothing special, just a nice country course an hour or so north east of Melbourne. Even though it was only Sunday, the fairways were light rough length. The greens weren't pure, but they weren't horrible either. I played as a two with my brother and we didn't have to wait for anyone until the 17th.

Middle of the fairway on 11.

Another course just north of Melbourne. It was heavily bunkered with the majority of holes having fairway bunkers on both sides, plus greenside bunkers. It felt pretty tight at times because of this.

The greens had been cored recently (although not sanded to smooth it out), so I can't comment on the conditions of the greens, but the fairways were very dry, and even patchy on the front nine. This meant that the ball was running a mile though. The area was quite open, so it is very susceptible to winds, which we got later in the round.

I enjoyed the course, but I was striking it well on the day, otherwise the bunkers might have started to drive me crazy.

I took advantage of daylight savings and played golf after on site work in Adelaide on Monday. I chose the closest option which was Mawson Lakes.

Not a very good course. I didn't really spend time on fairways (they were very narrow), but off them was super dry and cracked. Some of the holes' design was poor too. Gotta love a double dogleg par 4. Greens were decent.

There is some hate here for this course, but I can't really see why. I liked it. Conditioning was good, although greens were sanded from a coring a little while age. A discounted green fee wasn't offered for this through their online booking like there has been for other courses that I have looked at in Melbourne. I thought the design of the front nine was good, although not so much for the back nine. The other annoyance was only one spot for toilet and water, besides after 9 holes, which was locked today.

I just can't find what happened between this being a possible Champs venue and the hate for the course that Lefty has now.
Were the greens shit, and I didn't see this because of the sand?

Hmmm, my post should have been I've played TWO rounds there, one where it pissed down rain, the other blew its tits off. Conditioning was fine to good on both occasions.

But the third and final straw was Courty and I played a pre-champs round there where it blew its tits off even harder again, the place was dry as ****, the greens were long / slow, bumpy and diseased as ****, and must have been from different tees than I'd previously played because some of the forced lay-ups required were ****ing stoopid.

    Never again.

I played from the whites with my brother, so for me there were some really good risk/reward decisions to make, particularly the front; it was a bit long for him. The blacks would have been too much for me.

It was dry, but the fairways had full grass coverage. Off fairway seemed worse on the front than the back. I can't comment on normal green condition.

The wind got up on the back nine and was strong and blustery for a fair bit of it. The tenth felt like a par 6 into the wind and I had no idea where I was meant to be putting the ball on that hole. There were a couple of others where the reward wasn't there for a good shot with the wind and kicks having their way with the ball.

I wonder if the wind comes from the same direction on most occasions and this was taken into account in the design.

I'd play again based on my experience.

If 10 played into the wind then that's the norm.

Absolutely appallingly ****ing stupid hole that one.
