Very intriguing, is a must play. Glad i did it, and i will be back. Its an annual proam, 2nd Monday march, initially a trainee event now open. Apparently the course defeats many, and the many just keep coming back for more every year.

The hole by hole guides on website is very accurate.
Hardest hole is 18, then 14 and 16. 18&16 both do your head in wondering how to play them. The rest of the holes is mostly obvious.

Its all about putting the ball in the right spot where it wont run off into trees.

One of the pros said he would play uphill 320m 18th as 6i + 7i, so i tried 4i off the tee and had 5i left.

Par5 16 dogleg left tee shot need to hit short on RHS, i used 4i. Its bloody hard aiming away from where you know you have to go.

I like Laidley. It's a nice country track. The only questionable hole for me is probably the par 5 ninth, with a sharp dog leg about 100m out from the green, but the rest are good (unlike some of the stupid holes at my course). For now, the condition is still good after years of preferred lies, although the kikuyu around the greens kills the run of chips; that's probably why the Laidley member we played with always uses a high loft wedge around greens.

They had Little Creatures Pale Ale in bottles, which while a little old, are a better option than what they had before.

I hate 3, 7, 10. Cannot play those holes. Next time i am going to use a putter for my 2nd shots on 3. The kike surrounds is becoming quite common, thought you would be used to it, City Toowoomba has that in spades its like glue.

I also enjoyed the Laidley course for the most part, didn't like 5/17 only because I pull drew two balls into the dam there. The 8th was good to me, only birdie of the weekend. Will likely be back next year.

Whether we can play a hole is a different matter. The par 3 8th is too long for me, but at least it is a shot hole. I seem to be always blocked left on 9, and 7 is painful, but shouldn't be.

Played from the white tees, which made all of the many dogleg holes really annoying, as you needed to go over trees to make the hole shorter, and with the height of some, it was a bit of pot luck. Course was in good condition. No beer this time around as I was still a bit sick.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

I last played at Brisbane River in late 2020 and the condition was very poor. Today it was much better. I can't recall a bad fairway lie and the greens were green although a bit furry for me. The only water tap working on the course was on the front nine, so I was a bit parched by the end. Plenty of interesting holes, although the course is a bit short with a few too many doglegs; I was itching to have a proper lash with the driver by the end of the round, as there were very few opportunities to do so.

On the craft beer front, it was the best stocked fridge I have seen at a golf club and they were supporting local breweries in White Lies and Four Hearts. Very impressive! Unfortunately, I didn't spot that until I had ordered my Stone & Wood Pacific Ale off tap. Not the worst option, but not what it used to be either.
