Default lower swing weight of a G425 Max driver

    Hi OZgolfers,
    Looking for advice here.
Ping website reads that 425Max driver with the standard Tour 65 swing weight is at D3. what is the best way to bring it down to D0?
Shorten the shaft, or changing the screw-on weight?
Really struggling with the driver at the moment, so gonna think "outside the box" a bit. (Let's try not talk about the swing itself. which might well be the problem here, but that aside......)

    Cheers!

The general rule of thumb is that taking 1/2" off the length decreases swing by 3 points and every 2g of change in the head weight will change the swingweight by 1 point. You would need to change the head weight by 6g to get a 3 swingweight point change.

Are you struggling for centre contact or is there a normal miss with the driver?

Or can't you add 4g to the butt end for 1sw point?

Just jump on eBay and buy an alternate G425 weight, imo.

The current weight on your driver should have a number on it stating its weight in grams.

As Newy mentioned, to go from D3 to D0 you need to lose ~6 grams of head weight, so just buy one that is 6 grams lighter than the current weight.

Or, if you don't want to spend that much or wait for it to arrive, or want to do a quick and dirty check; take the existing weight out and add back weight via lead tape.

Yep, good suggestion — quick/easy way to test if a lighter swing weight is the way to go.

    Thanks guys for the feedback.

Found this article on the web,

"Bought a PingG425 Max Driver. Swingweight D-3. Replaced the Arccos standard (skinny) grip with a 49 gram midsize Winn Dri-Tac. Swingweight dropped to C-9! Turns out Arccos grip results in longer club, and thus D-3. Club was nearly unplayable. Switching out head weight to 32 grams restored swingweight and feel to factory spec. I recommend this head weight if you want this driver and you need ANY change of grip!"

Could this be an option too, as my irons have a mid size grip so might give a more similar feel to my other clubs?

I imagine I wouldn't be able to tell difference between C9 and D0.

Re reducing the head weight, would it lessen the effect if it is set to a draw bias?
    Cheers.

Around 20 grams of lead tape would be a lot of lead tape.

Without overly checking the arccos weighs about 5 grams which might add around 2 SW points and from memory it make the club about 1/4" longer which takes you to roughly 3.5 points or thereabouts. Maybe the 4 point difference old mate saw.

Oldmates story is a bit strange to me, but whatever works. I'd assume the club was virtually unplayable, to him, in both setups. 49 grams is pretty much the usual standard size grip weight.

I'd steer clear of any backweighting and heavier grips to hit a SW target. It's just fooling the scale, for mine, and weight at the back end of a driver means little in the big scheme of things.

By all means get rid of the arccos and throw a midsize on to match your irons. Ping usually builds to 45 1/4" with the tour shaft so you'd possibly be back to 45" and have a matching grip which wouldn't be a bad thing. Many midsize are around 60 and if so i always add 2SW points to what it measures so i'm not fooling the scales. You'd be close to D0 and it would be a reasonably.

Reducing the headweight 6 grams or whatever would make so little difference to any perceived bias i wouldn't worry about it. I'd do the grip first and see how it rolls.
