    Default Starlink

    Anyone else moving to Starlink?

I'm sick of 10mbps out of our FTTN NBN.
Half price sale, too good to refuse.

Anyone else out there using Starlink?

We have started to use it at a heap of our remote sites, both fixed on to dongas and mobile setup where required.

Reports suggest its better than the shitty mobile or NBN coverage we had.

Be bloody handy for remote camps. Got a few pastoral people going that way also.

    Satellite?
You be nuts to choose this if anything else is available. Satellite transponder bandwith is expensive and limited.

One of the dads at my kids’ athletics got it earlier in the year. Said it’s the greatest thing for the family as they were really struggling with speeds beforehand.

I believe he had 18 devices connected in the network and was raving how it never missed a beat.

we have it with a number of clients.

i dont know how.. but it doesnt suck and the latency isnt awful.. you can even game with it.

    witchcraft...

and yes i know all the usual limitations of Sat, but it works and works well.. also presently half price @ $450 for the hardware.

But I thought the guy who invented the internet in Australia gave us a superior nbn? No experience with Sat. Should have been fttp for everyone, and I'm guessing it will be one day.

FTTP doesn't work as a cost efficient solution when you are installing at an agricultural facility 30k from town, or a ranger station in a remote national park running off a generator/solar/battery, or a quarantine point in the Torres Strait.

FWIW, I've had FTTH since the first trial NBN rollout. Never missed a second of uptime

What he said. The brochure had FTTP, in reality .. FTTN aint that bad. You can easily get 100Mb with FTTN.

I still dont understand why they limit upload speeds though - and why we just had a another drop from 40MB to 20MB for 100Mb links.

I am on the old Optus HFC cable. and it is awesome and reliable. The Node is about 400m away, and then i have client on FTTN in more built up areas and it is dreadful
