    Default Choosing golf tech

I have a situation where I have a bunch of points expiring with an overseas airline at the end of the month. They won't ship alcohol international so not much else that piques my interest.

However, there are a few golf tech items that could suit.
Garmin Z82 range finder (all points + ~$90)
    Garmin S70 47mm (all points + ~$200)
    Garmin G80 (most points + $35)
A few other Garmin products also available.

I wear mechanical watches, so a golf watch would mostly be an on course device.
I like the look of the range finder but the less fuss of the watch or G80 also appeals.

Leaning towards the Z82 if I was to make a call now. Any advice to help or what would you select?

    Cheers

Having just bought a G80 to replace my old GPS, I would vote for that.

The combination of a GPS with some launch monitor tech is great and the battery lasts for more than 2 rounds without a recharge.

Singapore airlines. Mine are going soon too.
Kinda sucks because SQ really have restricted availability now for Saver redemptions, especially on the flights I want. And their waitlisting never works for me.

That's the one, they've kicked my expiry down the road a few times due to their COVID policies, I've got a little one due in 6 weeks so no chance of using my points for redemption either. To be honest I'd forgotten about my points until I got the email.

I've just bought a new buggy with a good spot for a mobile (my current GPS device) but it goes to sleep and I have to get it out of the cradle to wake it (thumb print), I found this annoying enough that I stopped bothering and just kept my phone in my pocket. How does the G80 go in this regard? Does it stay awake the whole round or easy to wake?

It has a setting called Backlight Timeout (I guess to save battery) which has choices of Stays On and 15s to 2 minutes, 30s is the default.

I have never seen the screen go blank during a round.

Is it the only device you use on course? Do you find it irritating to use for anything. I can see it being fantastic for some info and potentially irritating having to look through a viewfinder for some basic info here and there. Maybe just over thinking it.

Only device I use. It's slightly slower than others, but the info it provides is great.

I had the z80 before it and it's definitely an upgrade.

I find I only use my GPS for courses I don't know (or not well), for my home course it's all laser.

Well, couldn't make up my mind then all three options above went out of stock (was going to get the G80 when I found out they were all gone). So I panicked and pulled the trigger on an R10, now we see if it's accurate. The R10 is showing as out of stock now too.

Good thinking 99. I also do this, because on away courses i have on occasion lasered the tree behind the green and not realised it.
