Clubhouse fire at The Lakes
A mate sent me this.
Fire in Club Storage Area
At approximately 11pm last night, Saturday 23rd April, the Fire Brigade were called to contain and extinguish a fire in the Club Storage area of The Lakes Clubhouse.
We are very sorry to advise that some of the Members and Club property stored in this area have been damaged.
We are working with our Insurer Company to schedule an Assessor to come out to the Club and provide their report on the situation and are hopeful that any damaged equipment will be covered under the Clubs Insurance. We will advise respective Members once the Insurer has completed their assessment.
In the meantime, we have been advised no-one is to enter the Storage area until the Insurance assessment has been conducted.
We are extremely sorry for any damage to Members equipment and are doing what we can to push this process through.
The Golf Shop also suffered some smoke and water damage and will remain closed for the immediate future. We will be operating a check-in counter from outside the Golf Shop but still plan on running with all scheduled timesheets and competitions.
The fire also impacted our electricity and water Supply to the Clubhouse, unfortunately meaning the Clubhouse had to remain closed today. We have restored power and are expecting the water supply issues to be resolved by Sunday evening so that we can have the Members Lounge and Locker Facilities re-opened for Monday.
We greatly appreciate Members understanding and patience during this difficult time and hope to return to normal operations as soon as possible.

Yet another pro shop fire, seems they are reasonably regular, my old mans mate burned his joint down charging his battery in the spare room.
If you are on a golf club board, prepare for insurance to double or more,

Some sense then in NSWGC building a separate building (recessed under ground) for cart, club and automatic trolley storage.

or drop it entirely. My club has signs up in the locker room that stored members equipment is not covered by insurance.

Ours certainly increased last year by 30-40% and we had to get really specific with certain limits of coverage. Being in a Cyclone zone certainly doesn’t help.

This may have been assumed previously however it is CLEARLY labelled now partly because of a theft that occurred 18-24 months ago.
It is interesting though because one of the things i noticed at Kooyonga was a club and buggy storage area under the clubhouse. There’s a line marked space for your buggy and a double gang GPO to charge all your guff in between rounds. I thought it was a really cool concept.
If your electrical network is up to scratch there should never be any issues but the Lakes is an older club and I’d have a guess the electrical work is not new - I suspect the Kooyonga room is pretty new?

The Lakes clubhouse and associated areas were rebuilt around 15 years ago.

Said to one of the boys last time i was out there, they did a good job or incorporating the design of my school dunny block into a clubhouse. The main bar area is remarkably small for such a big building

The previous one was modelled on the Camden Rotolactor.

Might be covered by the insurance we pay to Golf Australia with our membership fees. That includes loss to golf equipment while on the premises and is fixed amount per person australia wide.

Criticism doesn't bother me, as it means I am doing something and people are watching.

Maybe but GA isn't going to pay to rebuild clubhouses and other structures.
