Default Any Yarra Yarra members out there?

    Hey OG'ers

Anyone a member at Yarra Yarra?

Thinking about a local membership. I'm in Moorabbin so want somewhere local which is a good track. Haven't played there yet but I've heard good things.

    Cheers
    HC

Its a very good course now! Comfortably in the countries Top 20!
They will have a waiting list…Commonwealth nearby do not.
CGC has several problems though…not least its former board members!

Yeah, the 10k joint fee really stings.

Was hoping it’d be less than that… don’t think I can afford it before doing the reno’s to the bathroom and building the deck on the house.

Looking at other cheaper options for now:

    Any thoughts on…

    Rossdale
    Southern
    Keysborough

Chinaski I play YY semi regularly and it is a quality track, and will be circa $13-15k joining fee, plus a waiting list. Not sure what it is, but I would suspect at least a few years. Most of those tier 1 courses have a joining fee that is typically 3 x the 7 day membership fee.

I'm a member at Southern, so happy to host you if that is of interest. Although I see you have lined up a game on a Saturday.

Spring Valley is a good track. I haven't play Keysborough for a number of years.

I'm not a huge fan of Rossdale, but that's just my opinion. Many people don't like Southern, but I enjoy it. To each their own

Still need the current course to get rezoned, which was never going to happen until after the next state election. It will then be at least another 3-5 years should it ever happen. In the meantime the developer is still paying his 600k (down from 800k the first 2) a year now into its 5th or 6th year. Members don’t really care if it goes ahead or not most are happy with what they have. Nick the new super from metro has made it unbelievably good for what it is, most of the garden beds have gone!! Looks so much better.

Tassie is too expensive now!!!!! Was there last month and had a good look at seven mile and arm end, didn’t have time to catch up, will do it later this month all going well.

Thanks chappy. Yeah managed to get on Sat morning and Brad the GM seemed like a decent bloke.

Apparently no waiting list at YY and you can pay the 10k joining fee over 2 years which isn’t too bad but I just can’t justify it at this point.

Pretty sure SV has a waiting list at the moment but I’ll send through an enquiry. 5k joining fee there.

Woodlands is a similar annual sub to SV from memory but an 8.5k joining fee.

Any other decent options in the area that are reasonably affordable?

    Cheers

Yep, Brad is a ripper bloke. Very accommodating.

I didn't realise that there was no waiting list at YY. If you had the cash, that would be ideal. So if there is a $10k joining fee payable over 2 years, then first 2 years circa $10k.

There are other options, but the quality drops away, so it's typically a case of you get what you pay for.

If I was to look for a new club to join, I'd be looking at Vic, but that or Metro are my fab courses in Melbourne.

I've heard good things about Keysie and have sent through an inquiry. Yes, they're full at the moment though but happy to wait for the right course if need be.

Its all about the quality of the course and facilities…verses the price.
YY is in the top 20 courses in Aus.
So r Vic, Metro, KH, PKCC, RM.
    U pay for that.

Some lesser names are still good clubs and depending where u have come from, the course will be better than your previous…even at the lower tier courses of melbourne! Downside of lower tier courses is they have “Lots of Members”…..so hard to get tee times! If your planning to stay for good, join the best club you can and think of it as an investment in life!

If you were to move away from the premo sandbelt, which way suits more? LaTrobe to the North is a pretty decent mudbelt track that shouldn't be too expensive and Kew is also worth a look. Possibly Riversdale?

To the South you have Cranbourne, Patterson River or Frankston?

A little further down is Long Island, but I have no idea what that is like now that it is part of The National Group...

Just throwing out ideas for that "next tier down" of courses.

Lefty, Kew is $5k per year and about $12k to join. It is the best of the mud belt…imho.

Really from Moorabin you have keysborough, southern, ranfurlie or sand hurst. Any drive further ain’t worth it, you won’t go that far. Makes no sense to go from sand to mud.

Good points Lefty! We’re fairly spoilt for choice around the area it’s just finding the right fit at the right price.

    Ideally it’ll be within 20mins.

Played Southern (extremely badly) today. Found it an enjoyable day though. Was off the 10th early at around 8:20 and played with some really nice blokes - Dan, Stuart and Carl.

They all gave some great insight to the club, Dan being an 18 yr member and Stu only just joining August last year.

Super accomodating hosts and really helpful with the layout and facilities. Was really surprised to only have to pay the comp fee too. A really nice touch when all the other courses I’d enquired with have made mention of the fee straight away.

Course was in great nick. Looks and sounds as though they’ve done a fair bit of work through covid. The only thing that needs attention are the bunkers. They need some work but chatting to the President (forgot his name) in the clubhouse after the round he mentioned it’s high on their priorities.

I agree the layout is the best of the mudbelt, it was suffering quite badly condition-wise 5 or 6 years ago when we played it for VIC Champs, so if they've got it back then yeah, that would be the go.

$5 and $12 is a little yikes though. Any idea on LaTrobe for comparison?
