Super accomodating hosts and really helpful with the layout and facilities. Was really surprised to only have to pay the comp fee too. A really nice touch when all the other courses I’d enquired with have made mention of the fee straight away.

Course was in great nick. Looks and sounds as though they’ve done a fair bit of work through covid. The only thing that needs attention are the bunkers. They need some work but chatting to the President (forgot his name) in the clubhouse after the round he mentioned it’s high on their priorities.

The course is quality Chinaski. When subs are due this year, I'll chalk up 27 years.
The greens are as good as any and the course condition is superb. The bunkers are f###ing terrible and have been for a very, very, very long time.

I'll believe what the president is saying about the intention to fix the bunkers when it happens. Sorry not sorry.

Yeah, President mentioned buying a sifting machine to get the rocks out and removing the base layer of felt or plastic. But who knows, could’ve just been a sales pitch.

‘Neighbourhood Membership’ what is this magic you speak of?

The state of the bunkers has been communicated to the club for many years and no real progress has been made to address them. As mentioned, I'll believe ut when I see it.

Hey all, been awhile since I've been on the forums .Agree with above, SV or Southern will be my picks. SV must have add their joining fee back in, they didn't have one for awhile. Looks like Southern is looking good for you.

Aside from course/clubhouse/cost, there is an important component, well at least for me, comes under the heading of 'culture'. Its a word I never got comfortable with in corporate life but I think its relevant when parting with a fair bit of hard earned to join a club.

I think the YY board recognised their issues, made changes with an attempt to make the club more resilient in the future, this is under appreciated. My old club in Sydney plays an annual home/away event with YY, not relevant in itself but its been going for years and is another big tick for me.

Well I officially joined Southern GC last week. Played my first round as a member there last Saturday morning and found it very enjoyable with enough challenge thrown in to keep you on your toes. Look forward to more to come! Thanks to all the input

I made an inquiry with Southern today. Beaconhills is quickly turning to its mud base, not fun in winter. I did a drive by of the Car Park on Thursday last week and liked what I saw. Looking at a possible 6 day membership, budget for 7 wont quite stretch that far for now

Sounds good mate. I'm off tomorrow in the morning at around 8:20am and then Sunday later in the arvo at 12:45ish. Still getting a feel for the course and just trying to get back into playing really after about a decade off. My swing is certainly not a repeatable as it once was! I'll send you a PM of my details and if you're around over the weekend we should have a beer in the clubhouse.

Edit: Tried to PM you but your inbox is full

Yeah, I just went with 7 day but that’s what I was after anyway. Weds seems to be the busiest day looking at the timesheets.

There was 4 other new members at my induction and only 15 positions when I enquired so I dare say it’ll be at capacity fairly soon.

You could always sign up to 7 for the first year and request to be on the 6 day waitlist?
