Rubbish 29 points today at Oxley. Nothing much to talk about there, fairways and greens were low, although I did make an unlikely par on 14 after pulling the tee shot left into the garbage then threading the needle with a 150m punch out for a chip and putt. Hopefully I play better tomorrow.

Played the Royal Canberra tournament over the weekend. Its a different beast off the plates to a normal members comp. Handicap had dropped to 5.6, so I was in the nett event rather than the gross, for those off 4.5 or lower.

Played with a plus 3 marker and hit it better than him tee to green for most of the round. However, he could get up and down from anywhere, and I used my putter 45 times from on and off the green. Hitting the greens and being 15m and a tier or two away from the target just killed me - as did leaving everything short as the ball just didn't seem to roll out as expected. 90/83

Day 2, the greens had firmed up and were faster, with the expected shine as they were rolling around 11 now. I had swapped my putter, and missed 2 3 footers in the first 4 holes to be 5 over after 4 and wondering why I bothered.... Worked it out on 5, and ended up with 82/75, 15th for the day.

Winner overall was Harry Bolton, his 70/70 enough to take it out. On Friday, he shot a back 9 27 with 7 birdies and an eagle. He is about to turn pro, and have a crack at the Asian Tour - will be interested in following his career.

    Default WDYSTM - April 2022

18/04/2022, Wolston Park GC, Blue Tees, Social.

    Score: PXBPPbPPP bXPPPPPBP; 37:34:71 (+2:+2:+4).
    Played to 6.3. SCH: 7.3 (-0.5)

No comp entered today, because getting a handicap update isn't worth $13 (or $8 if I get in the BRD). Started poorly with a domed 3W on the first, and then a failed between the trees punch leading to a double on two. That stuff doesn't worry me too much anymore, as I know that things can turn around. The ball striking got a bit better, but was still a bit ordinary, especially driver, but like the last round the short game and putter was hot. I kept scoring well, had a couple of birds and got the round back on track. The double on 11 was annoying, as I played for a conservative recovery, but I three putted on the temporary green, which is so bad, it is being replaced by another temporary green. No stumbles in the last few holes this time, and I finished with my best score this calendar year.

Updated run of scores for 18 holes at Wolston Park this year:
    86, 80, 79, 77, 76, 75, 72, 72, 71.

Played the Easter Classic at Toowoomba GC over the weekend. Playing off 22 my goals were to not lose a ball - and to not follow up a bad shot with another one. Achieved the 1st goal - didn’t quite achieve the 2nd.

93 / 71 on Saturday with some solid putting thanks to a practice session on Friday.
    95 / 74 on Sunday (lost a shot overnight).

Course presented really well with true greens on Saturday, they slowed a little on Sunday with some overnight rain which took some getting used to.

Enough for Div 3 gross runner up, only because there were some truly horrendous scores put up.

I played in the Easter Classic at Toowoomba too. I hit it mostly okay but couldn’t get it going.

    Round 1 - 94/81
    Round 2 - 89/76

Course was in mint condition. Fairways were mowed in narrow so got caught up in the kikuyu rough more often than not. Greens were pure and slick Saturday, but softer on Sunday. Pitch marks galore! I repaired at least three on every green.

Did pick up a NTP on Sunday on the 14th. 222cm. Didn’t make the bird.

    Playing off 11.

7th gross overall in div 2

I should be happy as it’s my best return for the open but I left a lot out there, I clearly I like the first 9 as I was 9 and 12 shots better over the two days.

The changes to the course were nice.

33 points at Oxley today. Got my tee shots back under control for the most part, only hit 7/14 fairways but all the misses bar one were still in play. I've shelved my driver for the time being until I can get its shaft changed, and using the wood in its place. Such a nice club to hit. Some crappy iron play led to only 4 greens. 30 putts. Next round on Saturday off the blacks.

28 Points after 40 last week. Could not control Wedge distances for some reason, hit everything over the back. This game is such a good leveller.

Had a flag dropping off today, nothing better than throwing in a new one.
    39 points
    3 bogies
    3 birdies(on the trot)
    12 pars.
I had it going pretty good, second time I have parred the course, this time it was the Hills course. So I can now claim to have parred 2 of the 3 course combinations.

Played in a 4BBB stroke comp today, black markers, but my head just wasn't in it after losing a good mate to cancer yesterday. Managed to scrap my way to 97 and our two ball only managed 72 nett (+1). Next round on Monday, hopefully will be better.

Played in the Anzac Cup event at City GC yesterday. Played decentish on the front nine, crappy on the back nine for a 89 / 67. Did not find a fairway all day. Lost 1.5 strokes off the handicap so heading in the right direction.

34 Points, could not hit it at all after hitting it pretty well the last few rounds, but chipped and putted my way to an ok score.

Banged in a quick 2 night golf trip to SA. You might sense a pattern here.

    Friday am - Royal Adelaide.
    3 birdies, 4 doubles

    Friday PM - Grange West
    4 birdies, 1 double

    Saturday am - Patawalonga
    4 birdies, 0 doubles

    Saturday PM - Grange East

    2 birdies, 4 doubles

    Sunday am- Glenelg
    5 birdies, 7 doubles - incl the first 3

    Sunday pm - Kooyonga
    5 birdies, 1 double

    For those keeping score:

    23 Birdies, 17 doubles.

Legitimately took 5.5 rounds to get familiar with the bent greens (as noted by my putting ay Kooyonga).

I had a better time of it today shooting 83 for 37 points with 3 birdies, tied 3rd in the comp and got a NTP. My third birdie was lucky after my approach shot bounced off an irrigation lid beside the green over the back and I hit a little flop that rolled in.
    10/14 fairways, 5 greens and 29 putts.

Now that I'm only posting goodish rounds, I've decided that 34 points is good enough to post. 2 posted rounds this month, for those counting. I think the other rounds I have played were nett 77, 32 and 32.

It was a soft golf course and very slow greens, so I was happy with 34. It was mainly achieved through some good chipping and short putting, not through great ball striking. A flag round, which may indicate how much I've been struggling in recent times.

And, almost more remarkably than any of that, it didn't rain for first time in at least the last five rounds.

Finished 3rd in the comp today with 3up playing PAR. Which I'm thrilled with because I have been playing like a busted.

However, I was 6 up with 4 to play and went, wipe, wipe, half, wipe to finish. FFS
