Pennant(s) today. Playing off 3 and giving up another 3 shots to an absolute bomber. This guy was hitting wedges 120m, driving close to 290m and was having a great round. 1 down with 6 to go and all his shots used up, I had to work hard to come away with a half. I had a great day on the course as well, 3 over off the stick. I was dormy down 1 going up the 18th, second shot was my worst for the day and into the bunker. Oppenent was behind a tree and had to come put sideways, so I thought I was a good chance. Splashed out of the 8 foot deep bunker to 2 m, sunk my par putt while oppenent missed and I was very grateful for splitting the points. Halved a hole in birdies down the stretch for my only birdie of the day.

Social club game was canned today so I got a spot in the Oxley comp. Won the day with 38 points (84 gross). 6 fairways, 4 greens and 28 putts. 54% up and downs. Pretty good day overall.

Continued the Northern Rivers golf adventure with a stab round at Byron GC today. Bit of a mash up course with 1 out of play, 2 temp greens, and the 3rd shortened to a par 3. Even though more score was only 30, I hit it miles better today than last weekend.

Hit 4 greens, but missed another 13 by less than 5m. Unfortunately my short game stayed in qld, and only got up and down on 3 of them.

What’s the reason for the mash up?

I read some good things about the course the other day, so it would be interesting to know. Flood related or renovations?

Issues with drainage around the 1st and 2nd holes. 1st fairway had a fair few trenches dug though the fairway to try get it to drain, and 2nd green/3rd tee area was still a mess.

Out of nowhere had one of the best ball striking rounds of my life.

    9/14 FW
    14 GIR
    32 putts

3 of the 4 missed GIR I was within about 1.5m and putted. Other one was in a bunker.

    1 bogey, 1 birdie, 16 pars.

Pretty much hit it to 10-20 foot all day and just missed putt and tapped in. Missed one 3 footer but other than that I putted well. Could not have scored any worse with how I hit it.

Trying to work out the how and why. Didn't warm up at all, out of the car, pay the fee, go to first tee, no expectations, just wanted to be finished in time to watch the GP. Need to capture that mental approach.

    Default WDYSTM - April 2022

Went camping on the weekend but snuck 9 holes in the arvo yesterday. If anything I got a walk and some sunshine. 39(+2)

Then played in the annual Masters Breakfast 9 hole Stableford shootout. 36(-1)

Starting on 9, made eagle followed by 3 pars, a birdie, then 3 bogies and a birdie to finish.

Made a playoff @ 19 points with 4 others, alas no green jacket for me.

The aim was to have a hit at El Arish, but on pulling into the carpark there was a group of locals getting ready to tee off, so shot down to Tully instead. Best round so far around Tully with a 78 off the bat, missed one fairway, 26 Putts. Short game was solid. The course was in good shape, with the greens being mowed as I went around.
Hopefully can get up to Innisfail over the Easter break to try out a new course.

Innisfail is fun - a little bit more variety in elevation and hole shape if you were to compare to Tully. Very similar surfaces from memory.

I left work early to get at least one midweek round in during the Easter school holidays. I couldn't get the pace of the greens early, as they were a lot slower than expected, and I left a few short. I flushed the ball with the driver and majority irons for the first few holes, then once I hit the back of the field, my swing fell in a heap, and I couldn't figure it out. Stuffed up a few holes too, while rushing and jumping between holes to avoid the big groups I finished by hitting it from 173m to inside a metre on my last hole to paper over some cracks.

33 points at Oxley today off the white tees. Ball striking was ok but short game and putting was largely rubbish. One wipe after hitting one OOB, 2 birdies. 7 fairways, 4 greens, 34 putts, probably one up and down the whole day. Next rounds on Sunday and Monday with a lesson before Sunday's game.

For some reason, I decided to enter the comp instead of just playing socially. Spent nearly all of the round pushing it right, but not so far that I was missing all of the greens because of it, or putting the drives in trouble. Short game and putter had a great day. Double bogeyed both 4 and 5 again; these holes are doing my head in, and I think I might concede on 4 and treat it as a bogey hole, to try to avoid the doubles. Despite that, I made it through 15 in one over, without a single bogey, but stumbled/tightened up through the last three tough holes (indexes 6, 1, 2) to finish five over. I'm not unhappy with it, but it leaves a sour taste.

35 and a wipe. It’s nice to watch the ball go where I plan.

A little all over the shop but I’m trending in the right direction.

Three straight birdies after the turn (and a cold pint) from inside 5ft was a highlight- wiping the 13th was not.

Finished well for 73 (35pts) playing off 1.

First time playing with a ProV1x Left Dash- I liked it a lot, very similar to my preferred Bridgestone XS. A bit ‘softer’ off the irons, ‘firmer’ off the putter.
