    Default WDYSTM - March 2022

Kicking off the month today at Gailes in a blue marker Stableford comp. Figured I might as well take the chance to get a round in while I can, since work has called me back in tomorrow after being stood down so far this week. I haven't so much as touched a golf club since Sunday before last so I wasn't expecting a whole lot. Played off 16 today, ended up with 91 for 34 points (18/16). Driving was good hitting 11/15 fairways but my irons weren't great only hitting 3 greens. Not used to teeing balls up in the fairway, and probably a little wary of fatting it in the soft conditions, as a result I topped a few while others the best I can describe is half topped and hit a bit longer than I wanted. Short game was pretty ordinary as well, distance control not great. 34 putts. The heat and humidity got to me in the last few holes, swing got a bit wild and inaccurate so I didn't finish that well. Was on track to shoot my handicap or maybe beat it before that.

Still, it was good to get out and have a hit again. I feel like I've got a nice swing rhythm and shape going with the driver and that confidence on the tee helps a lot. Although I wasn't happy with my irons and short game I'm not really disappointed with the end result given the lack of play or practice. Not sure when I'll get out again.

Second round at Bowen for a 77 (Par 70), couldn't scratch a birdie out today and the driving was off at 58% but Putting held up at 28 Putts. Too many recovery plays from out of the tree lines hurt the round today.

Out early this morning to try and beat the heat (suppose to hit 40c today) for a round at Cardwell GC. First time around the course and hit a hot round of 73 (Par 71), 86% fairways hit (they are quite wide) and 26 Putts, plus a chip in. Hit the driver solid on good lines and had solid irons into the greens.

Got given another day off today so of course I decided to have a hit, Gailes again, white tees. Just a solo practice round, until the 12th when I caught up to a couple of blokes and we just played together after that.
Ended up with 86, had it been a comp nett 71 or 38 points. Was +4 after 9 but the swing went a bit on the back 9, and wet ground affected some approaches and chips as well. 8/15 fairways, 4 greens all on the front, and 31 putts.

    Is it still tee up?

It was today but tomorrow I think they're just going preferred lies. Didn't really help me much although I took advantage on all but one par 5 hitting driver on the second shot as well. Not playing over the weekend, but I've booked in at Oxley Fri, sat and Sun next week. Will cancel Friday if I'm called into work though.

    Medal round at Waikerie
Course was in great nick. Pity the game I bought with me was polar opposite. It was a train wreck.

    Medal.

My golf game is completely bipolar.

I went full tin cup on 16 on the way to a triple, bogey, triple finish for 91/85

Having next weekend off will be good to get some enthusiasm back.

First time not off single figures in a few tears today.

Par event. 2 down going out, square coming back. Was very windy in Melbourne today, so I wasn't devastated with 2 down, given I missed 5 putts inside 2 feet .

    Anyway, back into singles again.

The assistant pro asked if I wanted to go in the ball comp. Haven't been in one for years, but thought yep, why not. Ended up getting a ball too.

I'm not back, but I am getting close

-1 thru 14 to beat my opponent in Pennant.

We got robbed of semi final spot by a washout in the other match.

Shot a 44 at Burnley on Sunday in dreary conditions.

For 99.5% of members here a 44 at Burnley (a short par 32) would be deeply embarrassing, for me it's progress!

The goal to get 100 this year at a proper course lives on (current best 120 at Yarra Bend).
Once I pull that off I plan on becoming a member somewhere localish (maybe Heidelberg or something in the Valley given I live in Eltham).

I've played like a busted arse for the last month except in Pennant, so it was nice to get out this morning and shoot 37/41-78 nett 72 today in the midweek medal off the plates.

Rough is thick and juicy, greens are soft, but it wasn't an easy day to score with the howling southerly gusting up to 70k an hour which caught me out a couple of times on the back 9.

So the 78/72 held up for low round of the day gross (for my first time ever), plus A Grade nett - so I have now won the January, February and March midweek medals. Pretty stoked!

    Nice one - well done.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

39 points at Oxley today off the blues. Par to start then a couple of crappy holes, but played the last 6 in -1 to be +4 (22 points) at the turn. Swing got a bit loose on the back, need to work on this.
    9/14 fairways, 5 greens, 31 putts, gross 85.

The scorecard computer was down due to NBN down, and unfortunately my card was entered wrong and only shows 33 points. I had a 3 on the 5th which was entered as 8, and a couple of mistakes on the back as well. I'll sort it out tomorrow, playing again then.

Left a few shots out there on the green. Front 9 was tough but came good on the back.

    Default WDYSTM - March 2022

    78 at RQ on Friday
75 (33pts) in the 4B Multiplier at Cairns yesterday - we finished with 62 pts with no wipes. I picked up 2 NTP’s and got stung on the eyebrow by a wasp on the 4th…

The winners had 83 pts with two wipes!! Interestingly they ‘only’ had 37 points each.
