Thanks Gents. It's still stinging a bit after a night sleeping on it but with some issues around my swing I'm glad I made it this far.

It's going to sting for a while. Have to try to just be happy to have played well and gotten so far. But yeah, hard to not dwell on it. Well done.

76 gross/36 points for me on Thursday. A few birdies, quite a few bogies.

Then had our Christmas ambrose today. 66/58.something to finish 3rd. A weird rule - other than on the green, you couldn't hit two shots in a row. Changed the tactics a bit, avoiding my tee shots to let me (as the low handicap) have a crack at the approaches.

    Nice one.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

Not sure whether it's still a thing, but they changed the rules of the Holden / Volkswagen Scramble to that a few years back in yet another fruitless attempt to stop the Neds sandbaggers.

Certainly makes things very different tactics-wise, but it's not a great format.

I won't post every round I play but I'll post the two rounds I intend to play this week just to document how I go. I'm still injured, mainly my right hip and right leg, so I can't really swing freely. But my main disability is that I can't walk properly or very far. So golf is a bit of a struggle. But its much better than staying at home and doing nothing.

Today was 31 points. Lots of good drives and only one bad one, but lots of mishit shots from the fairways, and quite a few shots thrown away around and on the greens.

I'm going to try to play again Wednesday. At the moment I feel OK after today's round, so it might be OK.

I've always said I would avoid getting into a cart for as long as possible. I've seen lots of people graduate to a cart, and pretty well all of them stay in the cart once they get accustomed to it. I need the walking exercise.

But, frankly, its not looking good for a walking future. At this point I'm not getting better. My normal life is pain-free, but I cannot walk any distance at all, and as I found today, playing golf two days out of three is a stretch, even in a cart.

I had a terrible round today for 25 points. Much of this can be blamed on pure bad golf around and on the greens, but it was quite painful getting around the course, so it wasn't much fun. I am limited in swinging the club very flat and around my body, which essentially delivers low draws when I hit it well, and smothered hooks when I don't. Any shot that requires any height isn't in my skill set right now.

I'll only post good rounds from now on. Which may mean not much posting at all, if today is an indication.

Nearly didn't play today, a bit under the weather. Glad I made the effort, best round in a while. Drove well, putted well.

Nearly couldn't miss a putt on Thursday, but today (in a 4-ball ambrose) I hardly made anything. Bogey-free 2 under will be nowhere near good enough. I played alright, but one of the guys in my group had an airy...

29 points at Oxley today. Hadn't touched a club for a fortnight so didn't expect much really. At least I played the same ball from start to finish though.
Back again tomorrow, maybe I'll go better for the hit today.

Xmas Gala Day Ambrose: 57 (14 under) net 52.75, ham secured.

Highlight: Double water carry hole, its about 290m to carry the first of the water. Couple of decent drives short of the water, my mate says, I'll try and bounce it on the bridge, he does it, two hops, over a plant, onto the cart path, 188m to the pin, I hit hybrid to 15 feet and our last putter made the eagle.

We played a 4 man Ambrose Novelty event with "Obstructions"- The Greenkeeper's Revenge event. Various levels of difficultly on each green from the hole on a false side, to a cup above the ground with a hole cut in the side, slightly larger than a golf ball (+1/4" diameter). It was a bit of fun and made you think about your approach etc. But the best bit of the day was seeing a group get all bitter and twisted about the event afterwards.

We finished mid-field with a 64 nett. I am doing it again with a different team on Wednesday, with different "obstructions" I was told.

35 points today, this time with 3 wipes. A bit better than I expected actually given how rusty I was yesterday. I suppose hitting 8 fairways helped, as did improved short game and putting, including a chip in and putt from the fringe, both to save par.
23 putts across 16 played out holes, so probably 26-28 if I'd played out all 18. Was nice to get that side of the game back.

I had a few rounds over the last week, as I recover from my man boob strain.

First up was pitch 'n putt with the wife and the youngest last Sunday. A few months ago I developed a wedge matrix of distances for different swings with different wedges using the clock system. That didn't work for me (shank city), so I took just the one wedge for this hit, and was pretty happy with the feel and distance judgement. -1 through 9, and finished with +1, which was a bit disappointing, as I hit enough greens to score lower.

I popped into Wolly Park on Thursday for some full swing fitness testing. I played 12 holes and got through it fine, in fact, I was hitting bombs with the driver. I've gained 10m on my drives recently, and it seems like I have gained another 10m on top of that this week; the gym work and intent must paying off. Beefcake! BEEEEFCAAAKE! +2 for 12 holes, 2nd through 13th, with one kakaaa by getting greenside in two on the par 5 7th.

A full 18 today, catching up with andylo and playing a new course, Village Links. Besides a couple of snap hooks early, the driver was really good again, but I didn't convert it into good scoring. Nothing special with my approach game, dodgy course design and bumpy greens didn't help. +6 the first time through the 9 holes, then +7 the second time around with a triple, but a bird on index 1.

Next round: Looking to play at home on Thursday morning to start the holidays.

Should you have to pay full comp fee for an event like that?
