    Default WDYSTM - November 2021

Kicking it off this month with a 40 point round at Redcliffe in my social club. 87 off the stick playing off 20 today. I feel like I'm slowly getting more consistent with my swing as I go through more lessons, especially with the shorter irons. Played the back 9 in +5 which was nice.

    6/14 fairways, 5/18 greens and 32 putts.

+7 net yesterday in the first round of my club champs. Hitting two censecutive balls OB really hurt which resulted in a quadruple bogey. I was hitting it quite well but the putter was ice cold.

I have to remind myself that there's 3 more rounds to go.

    24 points today.

My scores have been steadily improving since being able to return to golf in Victoria. But today was a massive step backward and I can't remember being as frustrated with the game as I am right now

07/11/2021, Wolston Park, Blue Tees, Social.

    SG vs Scratch: Driving -0.1, Approach -2.6, Short -2.8, Putting -2.9 => -8.4.
    Score (B9 1st): PPBPPbPXB PBPXBBXBb; 35:42:77 (+3:+7:+10).
    Played to 12.7. SCH: 8.8 (+0.8).

I mentioned that it was the lack of shitty shots that kept my scorecard tidy last week. I was going alright yesterday through 10 holes, despite a few uncharacteristic three putts, before I had a string of one shitty shot per hole for seven consecutive holes. Chunk, shank, chunk, chunk, shank, knife, shank. I estimate that's about 5 shots lost in the score with that. Nearly all of the shots around those shots were perfectly fine. I was mentally and physically fatigued which didn't help things, and after that last shank, I muttered that I didn't want to play anymore. Naturally, I birdied the last hole.

    Next round: Same old.

+3 Net this morning in the second round of club champs. Another OB ball and a couple of missed easy short putts made all the difference. Fairly happy overall considering the wind this morning

35 points at Oxley today playing off 18 (blue tees). 3 wipes. Pretty bloody windy so I'm a bit surprised at my score, I guess working on the stuff from my lessons is beginning to come through more on the course now.

Somehow managed to hit 9/14 fairways, only one green (although a few were only a metre or two off) but my short game was working pretty well making 6 up and downs for par and a couple of others for bogeys. Came home in +7 today with a stupid four putt 8 on the 12th, which should never have happened. But overall pretty happy with how I went.

Next weekend back again off the blacks on Saturday arvo, then a social club game at Carbrook on Sunday morning.

1st round of Club Champs at Thaxted today and it was a real strange one for me. I thought I'd be in B grade however the grading is not classified on your GA cap, rather your daily cap which I find kind of silly. My GA is 13.8 but my daily was 12 which meant I was playing in A grade. I've also been playing pretty consistently lately so spirits were high before the round.

The greens were cut and rolled and were FAST! I played well off the tee and around the greens but my irons were horrible all day and I proceeded to shank 3 shots throughout the round, all with a PW or GW. My cousin was telling me how he shanked a bunch of shots at his local club champs last week and I guess it stuck with me mentally which is crazy because I rarely hit a shank - I'm more of an off the toe sort of guy.

Anyway I went 47/44 for a gross 91 nett 79 which puts me way back leading into the 2nd and last qualifying round next week. Even with a great round next week there is too many good consistent A graders for me to get back into contention.

Also all 4 players from our group chipped in from off the green throughout the round. One of the guys chipped in twice. I holed out from the Greenside bunker on 16 leaving one guy as the only player not to do so. On the 18th hole he found himself in the Greenside bunker. He then hit it from one bunker to the next, stuffed his second bunker shot, then holed out his next shot, it was nuts.

Was meant to play yesterday but the weather was appalling. Circumstances changed this morning and I was able to get into the comp at the last minute today.

It was a real feel of 2 degrees, 30 to 50k winds and showery.

Was minus 3 after 5, then went on a tear to get 3 up after 13.

Boged 17 into a 3 club wind for a miss, then dunked a ball on 18.

So finished +1, won A Grade and felt like I have some form for the first time in a while coming into champs this weekend.

SOMEHOW, 74 off the bat for a nett 71 yesterday in the Medal of Medals.

Looking back I feel like I only hit one decent shot all day, and of course still didn't make the birdie.

In yet further proof of my "balsa-woodiness", my left shoulder, wrist and elbow have all been giving me grief lately to varying degrees, but in particular the elbow yesterday was horrific, which caused some truly horrendous swings until I figured out how to manufacture a swing to get it around without it killing me every shot.

Was 4 over through 8 holes, so very happy to grind it back to only 2 over for the day.

    11 pars
    3 birdies
    3 bogeys
    1 double
    8/14 fairways
    29 putts
    5/8 up n downs

That's me done for 3-4 months, I'd say. One more round for the Navy Golf Club, but that's a 2-man ambrose and a piss-up, so unless I'm stupid enough to get talked into another one by these pricks up here the clubs can have a wash and **** off into the golf room for an extended stay.

Well done, Nick. Great way to finish off the year.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

    You'd think so, wouldn't you?

Seems the hate of being +4 through 8 well overrides any joy derived from being -2 for the last 10. So no, it wont....

Got out for a sneaky midweek 18.

Had 39 points off 3 with 6 birdies.
