    Default Barbougle/ King Island

Just wondering if anyone on here have done the Barbougle King Island trip recently and if so what did you think of it all.

Haven’t done it recently because I can’t leave home but I’ve done it. Barney I’d great, easier to go with a larger group. King island is pure, unreal, tougher to get to logistically but so worth it

I did King Island, Barney in January this year - the days were long and it was light until about 9ish.

Getting through Tullamarine Airport was challenging with the covid restrictions.

We flew Sharp Airlines from Essendon, and had two full days on KI.

The 9 holer at Currie is a good warmup, as we had dinner there before driving the 45 minutes or so up to Cape Wickham where we were staying. Could have played 9 there that night, but we didn't have a dinner reservation so Currie was a better option.

Wickham is worth 36 in a day, and probably 2 days worth of golf off different tees. I am already trying to work out how to get back there.

Ocean Dunes was just hard - it was a cold and windy day, and we felt beat up. Nobody wanted to do 36 that day.

We then flew to Launceston, and did 2 days at Barney/Lost Farm, staying at the Lost Farm accommodation.

We went through the Golf Travel Agency - wasn't cheap, but everything was considered.

Would I do it again? In an absolute heartbeat. We were blessed with 5 days of relatively perfect weather. A mate went a week later and it was 80k winds at Barney and unplayable.

Wow thanks heaps guys, we are looking at flying into Launceston then heading up to Barney playing for 2 nights playing 2 rounds then private plane to KI playing Ocean dunes and Cape Wickham staying 1 night then flying back to Launceston. Carts and Caddies included for all rounds. It looks amazing Im not 100% sure on the total cost as im being taken on the trip by a couple of mates who had a spare seat.

    Really looking forward to it.

I have been thinking about it Ben

All 4 are worth 2 rounds in a day if you have the energy.

I know my group just struggled at OD, as its just felt narrower than CW, but it has some insane holes - 1-4 especially, then 10, 11, and 13 and 14.

Barny now has a 3rd course as well, Bougle Run.

Re Carts are Barny, is it still Med cert required or just that it requires a caddie and quite a bit of extra $$$

the website says you need a mediacl certificate and it's called an "Escorted Golf Cart for those with a medical condition**"

    The cost is $110.

Interesting, I think they have previously allowed certain groups to go around in carts (escorted), we jumped in front about 6-8 of them a few years back. I can't imagine 2-3 groups all having certificates, but they may have had some extra $$$$'s

Escorted means you don’t drive yourself doesn’t it?

Thanks heaps guys, We are going on the 13th till 17th December and i think there may be 1 seat left on the plane. Due to border restrictions everything is ex Launceston. WBennett let me know if your interested and i can ask if the seat is still available. If you shoot me a message with your email i can send you the brochure.

If u get stuck, I could potentially slot GB. I could even fly the plane if needed. I probably have 15000 hours more the guy/girl flying u to and from!

ACT is a red zone. Unless border restrictions change substantially and quickly, Tassie is off limits. Two months is a long time, but I am not holding my breath.

Not sure Pete would slum it with us at Tas.

Tasmania may not open till it reaches 90%, which may take some real effort imo.

Ben, the Barny courses have heaps of width. Weather should be pretty good at that time of year. Its not a hard walk with the fescue fairways…but you guys may be pretty tired after all your golf on the trip. Reach out to to the Golf Operations guy at Barny (Phil McKenzie). He is a good guy and will surely help you guys!
